Attached ImageThe Romanian incumbent telco Romtelecom will have to sell access to its infrastructure to other companies at 30% less than the current rate, following a decision by the regulator ANCOM.
According to ZF, the monthly fee for full access is to be reduced from €8.37 to €6.02 per line. Back in March, ANCOM had proposed reducing the fee to €6.60 a month, though this had been criticised as still being too high by (amongst others) Orange Romania.
The decision is now likely to result in Orange Romania and Vodafone entering the fixed line market and starting to sell IPTV and broadband internet services.
IPTV services are still in their infancy in Romania – Romtelecom only launched its platform late last year – while the fixed line internet market was worth €200 million in 2009.
