Orange Jordan signs World Cup deal with AJ Sports

Telecom operator Orange Jordan has signed an exclusive agreement with Al Jazeera to broadcast World Cup highlights to mobile phones and on it website.

Under the terms of the deal subscribers can access official Al Jazeera coverage of the competition.

“This is a significant step that will deliver highly popular content to our subscribers, in addition to serving as a value-added service on demand for the many World Cup enthusiasts who now have a convenient way to stay apprised of the latest developments taking place,” said Nayla Khawam, CEO, Orange Jordan.

“The new agreement with Al Jazeera Sport channels reaffirms our commitment to set the trend in content services and to make the best of what wireless broadband technology has to offer,” she added.

Orange is the only 3G operator in the Jordan. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Prior to the tournament state broadcaster JTV attempted to secure access to the tournament through Al Jazeera but reportedly quoted a figure of $11 million for a package not including Algeria’s matches and only 20 of the 48 group matches in total.
