Turner chnls head for VTC DTH
Vietnam’s newest DTH service, from digital-terrestrial broadcaster VTC, is shaping up well, with Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific announcing it would launch six of its channels on the platform.
The announcement follows a similar release from Outdoor Channel.
One of Vietnam’s largest broadcasters, VTC will distribute Turner’s flagship channels, CNN International and Cartoon Network, as well as HLN, Boomerang, TCM Turner Classic Movies and, newcomer to Asia, truTV. Distribution to VTC’s potential subscribers will begin on July 1, 2010.
VTC will launch its new DTH television service using Asiasat5. The service will provide subscribers throughout Vietnam with the best of both worlds - a compelling mix of VTC’s well established local channels and a variety of popular international channels from news, kids and factual entertainment to Hollywood movies.
Government-backed, VTC operates 11 channels, of which only VTC1 and VTC2 are free-to-air. The remaining services – VTC3 (sports), 4 (fashion an style), 5 (VBC, entertainment), 6 (movies), 7 (TodayTV, entertainment), 9 and 10 (entertainment), 11 (animated and adolescents’ programmes) and music channel iTV – are subscription services. These have been available on VTC Digital and cable TV.
Ian Carroll, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc. said: “Turner offers a range of news and entertainment options that is second to none in delivering an attractive proposition for our partners to market to their consumers.
