Al Jazeera to refund UAE customers
Al Jazeera has announced that it will ensure customers in the UAE that purchased faulty access cards for the World Cup would receive refunds. Those charged above the recommended prices for the cards by agents in the UAE will be refunded the difference.
The compensation does not cover those affected by the loss of signal earlier in the tournament, which DPME.com understands Al Jazeera is not liable for.
The UAE Ministry of Economy did act on behalf of consumers affected by overpriced or defective cards.
A spokesperson for Al Jazeera agents in the country said that distributors must comply or face having their licence removed by the network and the refunds taken from their deposits with the broadcaster.
Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of consumer protection at the MoE said there had been “constructive cooperation” with the distributors following a number of complaints reporting inflated prices and faulty cards.
