Paraguay might start digital TV broadcastings by year end
According to free-to-air TV channel technicians, by 2010 end and beginning of 2011, Paraguay might start with digital TV experimentally and in a limited circuit, which will depend on legal processes to be fulfilled.
"We are sure that all free-to-air TV channels are working at the same pace to broadcast the first digital signals", stated engineer Alfredo Ketterer, Telefuturo - Channel 4 technical manager. Broadcasting companies will need to invest almost USD 2 millions to adapt their equipment and set the necessary technical infrastructure. However, before carrying out such plans, TV broadcasters need a regulation that governs Digital TV in Paraguay to be issued by National Telecommunications Commission.
A few days ago, the Paraguayan government adopted the Brazilian-Japanese standard ISDB-T, thus joining the other Latin American countries that have already chosen the standard (Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador and Costa Rica).
