200 thousand households receive HDTV in Peru
According to Johnny Herrera, Samsung Home Appliances Division Manager, although free-to-air digital TV is in its early stages in Peru, about 200,000 households already rely on HDTV because they previously hired HD Pay-TV services and acquired the necessary equipment.
In the meantime, the free-to-air digital TV signal keeps on expanding from the capital city of Lima towards the rest of the country. Between July and September, it will reach Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo, Chiclayo, Piura and Huancayo; and the rest of the country will receive such broadcastings between Octover 2018 and March 2024.
The first HD devices arrived in Peru by mid 2008; whereas free-to-air digital TV broadcasting started on March 30th that year with the state-owned TV Peru and ATV-Cahnnel 9.
