In the last week leading up to the FIFA 2010 World Cup football, broadcasters are now lining up their distribution platforms to bring a selected number of the games in 3D to their audience.

In France, private broadcaster TF1 has signed up five platforms to carry its 3D channel, which will air five football games. IPTV platforms are Bouygues Telecom, CanalSat, Free and Orange, while the DTH platform Fransat will carry the TF1 3D channel for the duration of the games. TF1 has the rights to five games in 3D, as reported by Broadband TV News (see here). In France, Canal+ will also broadcast a number of games in 3D (see here).

In Portugal, MEO has agreed to carry the 3D coverage of a number of games by public broadcaster RTP. They will be shown in the UCI cinemas at the Arrábida Shopping mall in Porto and the Campo Pequeno in Lisbon. The games concerned are Portugal – Brazil on June 25, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and finals. A total of 8 games will be broadcast in 3D in the country. On its platform, MEO will distribute 64 games on Sport TV HD as well as 28 games on RTP HD.
