    Sat Finder

    hey Everyone,

Sat Finder is a device that help dish installer to locate satellite on the orbit , it have a barometer that show you signal strength and a speaker that make a sound when the satellite is received.

all you have to do is connect the lnb wire to lnb input and the receiver wire to the other input then move your dish until you hear the sat finder's sound

pro:is simple to use no experience needed
cons:it dont show what satellite you received so you have to use the receiver to see what satellite you did receive

think gent is actually looking for the gadget, not lat/long position.

Mine came from Lidl in one of their infrequent special sales of satellite equipment and only cost a few pounds. It has been invaluable in setting up dishes, combined with dishpointerdot com. A search using ****** uncovered other sellers for around ten pounds.

these satfinders are ok for fine tuning once you have found the sat you want ,as they do not tell you which sat you are pointing at

Yes, Rick, and that is why one needs to consult dishpointer.com which means you can point the dish in near enough the right direction - say using a local landmark as a reference point, and at near enough the right elevation using the markings on the dish support and at the right LNB skew from the dishpointer table using a simple protractor.

The precise targeting is still unreliable

I wanted to add that identified the satellite, it is convenient to use a TV or cable box and more professional equipment for the precise orientation

never bought one never used one, all i have done in the past is selected sat in the box, entered a fta chn transponder data, frequency etc, rough direction with compass, an watch box for signal with very slight movements of dish, if going motorised due south is easy to locate, there have been plenty of these silly things on the market, even one you stick on the end of your focal arm, dont waste your money.

That way is ok if you can move your dish and watch a monitor or tv,but if you have to climb up on the roof every time you move the dish it would become a bit tedious also you can do your inclination with it as well, while you are up on the roof

totally agree, as my set-up i did at ground level you can get away without using if you got the time, satellite installers use these gadgets for precise signal and the best ones are very expensive.

If you have dreambox ( or other linux based recievers ) there is a computer program "signal meter" for E1 and E2. With this program you can connect your dreambox via wireless and take your laptop near to the dish to make fine tuning. On the program screen you can see information about current channel ( SNR, dB, BER, AGC ). The same program now is avalible for android and windows phone 7 platforms.
