Re: Risks of cardsharing
Well here, you dont need to subscribe, you can buy a PAYG( Pay as You Go) sim but you will have to register it in your name and address.

Re: Risks of cardsharing
You can buy them over the counter or on ebay. Petrol garages, mobile stores, etc.
think you can get a sim with 3gb of data for 90 days for just over a tenner.Leave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
I use a solwise 3g router in my caravan with a 3 mobile dongle and a skybox 12 works great slight freez now and then but well worth watching better than having just freeviewLeave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
Yes that's right, they can only trace the cell tower so can't trace your specific location.
This is more an experiment than anything else.
It'll also be handy if we go on holiday.Leave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
Here in Russia you may work more secure via your inet provider's wired network, then via 3g mobile connection for you won't buy an anonymous cellular contract - you will need to provide an ID to buy a sim card, at least data connection optimized one.
I live in a little town 20 km from SPb in a private house so 3g internet is the only one solution for me.
It's not a best way to surf internet, but it works pretty well with cs
Right now I watch how Germany crashes Greece - not a single glitch

basically same here (belgium) - not legal to detect (although - also mobile - detectors and blockers exist) - seems safe to me

Re: Risks of cardsharing
sim providers can only trace you to your local cell tower or triangulate your location to a rough area (without using GPS) and in the UK they need a court order and enough evidence to start doing things like that
really you should have no worries on an unregistered 3g sim, tracing wise
unless you are running a server you should be safe because it will cost more to investigate you than a year sub to uk $ky and they just cannot justify it, if you where running a server then the cost to investigate would be justifiedLeave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
True you will be more anonymos, but dont forget the sim provider can track you if they want.Leave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
Well it should work as long as I have a decent ping. As the 3g sim won't be registered it should be an anonymous i.p.
Lets hope it works.Leave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
If you have the time to do it i think it will be great thing to test and see how it will work with cs. So i vote for yes

Re: Risks of cardsharing
I tried a few days ago on my tablet, tethered to my mobile phone and I was receiving just under 8 Mbps. Can't remember exactly what the ping time was but it wasn't that bad.
I need a 3g sim for my tablet anyway and a 3g router is only about £ 20 on ebay. Worth a try I think.Leave a comment:

Re: Risks of cardsharing
I wouldn't waste my money on a 3g router and broadband bokkie. As the mobile broadband companies promise 8mb speed but they never acheive it. The maximum speed acheiveable is 7.3MB, depending on your area. The Ping time varies in between 60ms and 1100ms which is really erratic. I dont think it will make a good connection at all. I would wait till 4G launches and then give it a go.Leave a comment:
