    Re: 4K Demo

I think in add to have one TV 4k we must have a codec support on the stream used on the TV transmission flow from the satellite provider.

I imagin but not sure, can be used hevec h265 codec. I read in the technical specification on the wetek play box, this box support also h265 codec maybe can support also this transmissions?

Not Via Satellite though this will be through Fibre Broadband only so you would have to be a BT TV subscriber to see this channel inside the UK

                Hi.

I don't understand if it's an economical choice or is related to the amount of data not trasmissible via satellite...

I Do, BT in the UK have a Parent company called OpenReach who all all the Telephone/Broadband line infastructure. so if you own it all it does not cost you anything to transmit a channel over your own infastructure.

If they broadcast on Satellite they would have to pay Astra for TP lease and then Sky for the privilege of being on there EPG

                  Simple

Or maybe they'll use H.264 still for 4K (higher bandwidth usage, not all on-chip H.264 decoders can cope with that resolution, but some can indeed).

It's confirmed that BT's 4K UHD sports channel will be available only for BT infinity Broadband customers only who take there TV service.

No mention of this coming to satellite anytime soon

Yes its a very good ploy by BT they say you need around 40mbps which would categorize everyone into taking up Infinity2 option which goes up to 80mbps

Astra satellite operator SES and its German subsidiary HD+ will launch a joint Ultra HD showcase channel on September 4, 2015.

UHD1 by Astra/HD+ will replace the Astra Ultra HD demo channel on Astra (19.2° East) on the frequency 10.994 GHz H (SR 22,000, FEC 9/10).

Between 08.00 and 20.00 CET, retailers and DTH households can receive the channel unencrypted. After 20.00 CET, they will either need an HD+ module or an HD+ Ultra HD receiver with and HD+ smartcard for reception. The precondition is an Ultra HD TV set equipped with an HEVC decoder.

During the free-to-air window, the showcase channel mainly targets retailers with short clips to illustrate the new TV standard. From 20.00 CET, the channel focuses on viewers at home with mainly exclusive videos from the areas of action, lifestyle, documentaries and chill-out. The material shot by the HD+ apprentices will also be screened in the evening.
