    Strange s*y UK issue

    My friend has a dreambox ( I think 600)
Motorized setup he was complaining that he cannot get 28.2 East
I guessed it was a motor problem, not finding that stelite
So I sent him a couple of FTA channels from nearly every Sat Starting from 30West----Hotbird13East---Turksat 42 east and Fta channels from
    7west,
    ,16East,.
    19East,,
    26 East...
    39East
    and Naturally 28EAST
This to see if his dish setting is OK
He is using USALS with good Long.and Lat.
To my surprise he can see all those channels I sent him But he won't open
28.2 EAST, he says he has a v.good signal SNR =65/70 But channel (shopping one) will not open
He tried with a cccam test line too every available sat opens Bar 28.2 East
wonder what could be the problem or maybe be someone else encountered this same problem ,
    will appreciate any answer

    hi koppi

could it be that the channels you want to see are out of the footprint area? check with eg king of sats and/or satbeams footprints - there are several satellites on Astra 2 (28,2 E), the 'new' ones have a smaller footprint.

I thought Pan1300, of that as I myself have some channels which I doin't open
but I checked the channels I sent my friend to check on my reciever at my home and they open fine a good
what I am seeing strange is that if you get a good signal on 30W--13East--and 42 east with usals , I assume that the dish setting on the roof is quite good
we changed channel list aswell to be sure all is recently updated
well we keep trying and if We find a solution I wil post it for future reference

        Hi

If I'm not mistaken a signal of SNR =65/70 it's not a good signal and I'm sure that the channel can't be opened.

The signal quality should be more than 70% in dm600 in order to be able to get locked into the satellite.

when locked on channels and showing good signal quality,
When you press the info for the sat does it give any information, ie like if the channel is scrambled it will still give you the sat info

            OH i see
with my VU i have good signal with even 50% on that sat ,
Tomorrow We will try to up that level then I will inform you with the result

To be honest I did not ask him what he gets exactly when he goes on sat lock,
if ''channel info'' or ''channel not found'' , I will ask him (my friend) tomorrow

You should also make sure that your friend is not confusing signal strength, with
signal quality, a lot of people make this mistake.

              regards mobley3

You are right I myself get confused sometimes
But searched and found this hope its GOOD
SNR = Signal to Noise Ratio - which means signal quality
AGC = Automatic Gain Control - which means signal strength
BER = Bit Error Rate - which shows the error rate of the signal.

So, SNR and AGC should be as high as possible.
BER should be as low as possible, like 0. It can be higher, if your other values are higher

Now to be sure. what exactly do you try to optimize most the SNR or AGC ?

Signal Quality....so SNR. Different Receivers use different names.

                    Hi koppi

Vu+ and dreambox have some differences on signal strength and what % are shown on the screen as well as the differences that you can notice even on different images on the same receiver.

A very good trick in order to see if he can receive the channel is what the dear member @fandm said some posts above : http://www.sl-forums.com/forum/317871-post5.html

If the channel can be locked then the information will be available.

I'am in France near Paris, and with a 60cm antenna + LNB 1.0 i have sometimes some problems with some UK services. For example i have Capital TV with 6.0db and other channels on the same satelitte and same polarisation at 14Db. Receiving some 28.2° frequencys can be tricky. Same thing with Turksat with East and West beam.

Hi have you checked with something like Lingsats to see if your dish is big enough.

You're probably right on the edge of the reception area for Astra 2F, which is focuused on the UK. As above check Lyngsat for the channels you're having problems with to see if they're on 2F.
