    Motorised system help

I am looking for any suggestions or help for me to configure my VU+ Duo2 to use with an actuator motorised system. The previous setup was to use a second receiver to move the dish and then view with the VU+. However it looks like the second receiver has now given up the ghost and no longer works so I am looking for ideas.

    Any suggestions folks?

There is no way to make the Vu+ move the actuator as it needs 36v of power .

The only way is to get a V-box and then you can connect that to the receiver if you wish and use Disecq commands to move it .

      hi thews34

I agree with @josht5: get yourself a v-box II or a Gbox V3000. I installed 2 gboxes over the last 2 years (cost about 50 EUR/pc), works perfectly with Diseqc 1.2 - the receiver controls everything, no need to use the remote control of the positioner.

Thanks guys for the info. It sounds like you just control everything through your receiver. A couple of questions about the v-box is it easy to setup and are the sat positions already programed. Would it be possible to perform a blind search.

          hi thews34

I can only commend the gbox: indeed very easy to setup - all is done by the receiver ; mine had some sat positions programmed but those sats were out of my reach - I used Diseqc to program the sats: turn with receiver and store, that's all - I believe usals should be possible also, but I didn't try that.

            Usals doesn't work with V-box , only Disecq 1.2 .

            @thews34 .. the v-box is only a 36v control unit , it doesn't have a tuner to scan with .

            It's like having a left-right switch , only automated .

              Re: Motorised system help

Basically every G-Box or even V-Box i have had for my 36v Actuator has needed to be setup from scratch, think of it logically how does the G-Box/V-Box know the pulses you had set on your old box with the actuator it does'nt. as stated Diseqc 1.2 is totally different to USALS Motors they need setting up manually a USUAL motor does not.

Your best bet if your current positoner is fried is remember where the actuator is set now on which satellite and then work from there when you get the G-Box.

I always had the habit to leave my Dish parked at its most due south satellite which for me is 0.8° west so if the positioner broke when i got a replacement i could just program it straight away.

Also worth considering is these branded Alsat G-Box formerely Clarke Tech have a high failure rate due to the cheap chinese parts used i am on my 3rd one now in 4 years, if this one goes i will be investing in a different brand

I know its a bit outdated now but i still use a pace 5500p for my 36v silent gold motor on a 90cm dish as a backup if needed it still works fine

                      hi guys

fyi: my father in law used to use an old echostar as a positioner (only as positioner, as it wasn't a hd-box) - always worked, but after I installed the gbox, he's more pleased (easier to use, as all commands come from the hd-box) - my opinion: for the price really worth it

Hi I use a old Drake DSR sat receiver for positioning been using it for 20 years or so just program different sats to channels ie channel 1 = 13 degrees channel 2 =16 degrees etc

You are quite right, newer gbox or diseq positioner works nice, But my dish connected with 2 Actuators, I am unable to find any latest type Positioner for that purpose
