    Sky uk rumour.

    I read this elsewhere.

Rumour has it in two years time sky uk will be moving to an ip type tv service where customers will not need a dish, they will only need an internet connection. As a result there is talk about sky sd being live for the next 1-2 years as they are reluctant to invest in new systems when there is already a system planned to proceed.

That would not surprise me in 2 years time internet hopefully will be very quick for everyone so no lag problems so it may well be offered as a option to satellite

Of course that is not true and can't work in country like Italy, where IPTV is not possible in a lot of places...
There is at the contrary one thing that perhaps you don't know: when SKY IT started more than ten years ago, in major cities you could obtain it also as IPTV, but only with internet provider Fastweb.
Recentely they are working together again.

i think sataday was talking about Great Britain / UK

and with a first class infrastructure it can be possible within the next two-four years,

also in Germany we have (until 2018 or longer) big, big problems with first class internet everywhere,
but the general plans in germany (not SKY only) are including Internet TV in HD, in remote future UltraHD with H.264 or better (Fraunhofer development) codecs
Don't send me c-line requests, iptv requests, technical, premium and iptv server questions in PM!

I do not think that is possible in the UK , not even in 4 years .

The amount of copper telephone lines existing in most places will make streaming impossible . I have seen a lot of Talk-Talk fibre optic lines not go over the 5MB speed , and even slower in peak times .

Major cities , maybe , most of the country , maybe never .

They will definitely not do away with the dishes ever . If they do , it will leave a gap for any competitor to take advantage of the dishes already installed and sky will lose a lot of subscribers .

Satellite tv is here to stay , Sky will never give up the 28e position even if the IPTV takes off in the UK , imagine relying only on the internet to watch tv , nightmare .

Yes, iptv is working in many countries but the quality is very bad

That's why, it's needed only 2-3 mbps for this quality.

In order to watch a good quality HD iptv channel you need more than 5-6 mbps, and this a number that doesn't exist in any town.

I hope in the near future speed will be improved and VDSL can be available everywhere.

As about sky-uk, I believe that soon or late will turn to IPTV.

case closed as it's fling out off topic, this isn't about iptv in general
