    android box + dvb-s2 tuner

    Hi everyone!
i finaly found something that could potentially fit my requests. I was looking for an android htpc to run torrents and to browse and that could let me watch satellite tv.
Here is the link to the product.

    _http://www.aliexpress.com/item/DVB-S2-Android-AML8726-MX-Dual-core-Andorid-4-2-2-HDMI-WIFI-TV-Receicer-3D/1605984578.html

the only thing that is stopping me to buy it is that it isn't clear if it could support cs protocols, do you have any info?
otherwise could you please suggest a similar box with similar capabilities?

    Thank you very much!

Re: android box + dvb-s2 tuner

From the reading I have it would seem that this type of box does not perform particularly well and I have not found any support for cams.
I think that it far better to have separate boxes, if you have a decent satbox have a look the Raspberry pi for the rest, it is a miniature Linux computer so therefore you can make it do whatever you like, best to learn a bit of Python.

    Hope this helps.

Re: android box + dvb-s2 tuner

thank you very much for your answer,
i already have an android htpc (mele a2000) wich perform quite well actually,
i also found custom roms and even linux images for it!

my only complain is that it lack the dvb-s part, i wanted an easy solution to have only one piece of hardware around as i already have sly stb + bluray + htpc, i dont really can add another stb! i will wait some more time hoping that someone will provide a solution!

hi, mele A2000 it's just an android box, i want to replace it with the box referenced in the first post because the latter has also dvb-s2 tuner. My concern was about the possibility to use sharing protocols...

Re: android box + dvb-s2 tuner

The specs say there is dvb s2 support and in the description FTA is mentioned it also has 2 f plug connectors on the back.
A comment in the feedback section says " DVB part is a bit slow and sometimes crashes. Especially while watching HD channels", so it probably is.

However I still think a good Satbox and android box that he has already got is the way forwards, but judging from the equipment he is using he has a Sky italia box and obviously if he used an alternative Satbox he would lose HD.

Re: android box + dvb-s2 tuner

Hi all, finally the box has arrived from china.
As promised i am gonna review it for what i was able to do.

First of all the box arrived with remote, composite cable, and power plug (12v 1a).
i was a bit disappointed as there were no HDMI cable so i had to use one of mines.
The case is made of cheap plastic. A quite new thing is that the bottom surface has a removable panel which exposes the main board and the cpu radiator.
I couldn't find a power button as i plugged the power the box started loading android.

For what concerns the android part i must say it is really fast, there is no ****** play installed but there is an app installer if you have the apks.
I tried to reproduce some mkv video i had on my disc and they played well without any issue. I tried the internet browser to test the streaming capabilities.
The box came with android browser and ****** chrome installed. i used the android browser because chrome doesnt have flash support.
The browser behaved really good and i have been able to watch some streaming shows without problems. The flash video played well.

DTV part has been the more problematic but i am almost sure i am doing some shit as i am a almost complete newbie of dvb-s.
I have a scr/unicable setup and a myS*y it hd box which is using the scr channels 1 and 2.
To test the box i disconnected the sat cable from the mysk*box and plugged it into the box. when launching the dtv application from the android app screen it asked me for the lnb configuration. i clicked on the unicable one.
then it asked me to select one or more among different satellites, i clicken on hotbird 13E. i leaved everything as default and at the end it found only 12 channels. so i couldnt test all the dtv capabilities.
In the future i will post some images if some of you would be so kind to help me in making the unicable setup working.

I am also planning to mod the box by installing clockwork mod and xbmc to see how it behaves.

let me know if some of you can help me or if someone of you needs more info about the box!
I hope this partial review has helped you!

                          Update 10th july:
i managed to configure scr for both the box and sky, the channel search ended with ~2000 channels found.
i configured the sharing part using sl free servers, it worked! at least it worked for a while, there were too much freezes. i will try something more reliable in the next days. i ll keep you updated!
                          xbmc worked like a charm.
