ZTE launches 4K p60 Ultra HD STB

ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) has launched its 4K p60 Ultra HD set top box (STB), the ZXV10 B803, at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona.
The ZXV10 B803 is designed based on the Broadcom BCM 7252 chip, and supports the 4Kx2KP60 decoding capability, which can decode Ultra HD video with the maximum resolution of 3840×2160. In comparison to traditional HD Internet STBs, the 4K UHD STB can display more vivid and precise images to significantly enhance the user experience.

4K video technology (also named as2160p) is a new type of resolution standard. Its UHDTV specification can deliver a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, and the maximum Full Aperture 4K specification reaches 4096×3112. In comparison to the current mainstream 1080p resolution of 1920×1080, 4K can provide over four times the image definition quality. In the future, 4K HD TV sets will be very popular, and the 4K HD and HEVC decoding technologies will help raise the HD market tide. However, in the current market, 4K chips are mainly 4KP30 – only a few chips can support 4KP60. The ZTE ZXV10 B803 STB uses a 4KP60 chip, making it one of the first HD STBsto support 4KP60.

Fang Hui, Deputy President of ZTE, said: “As a global leader in the IPTV market, ZTE offers a complete series of Internet STB products across the range of availableresolutions, and is focusing strongly on the development of high-end STB products. This 4KP60HD STB product will help build our presence in the high end market.”

The ZTE ZXV10 B803 also supports the H.265 format. H.265 is the next generation super HD code transmission specification, which deliversencoded video using half the bandwidth of the previous generation (H.264), with the same quality. TheH.265 standard will gradually replace H.264 to become the mainstream standard of the next generation of video transmission.
The ZTE ZXV10 B803 also has a powerful CPU with a processing capability of 10k DMIPS (Dhrystone million instructions per second), enabling faster processing and a better user experience in comparison to current mainstream HD Internet STBs.

Was there any hint of price for the Stb? I can only imagine that it will have a very high premium when it is introduced into the market, also any mention of a time frame?

It is ok bringing in all this technology, but once the transmitions and production off it all starts and this 4k stuff becomes the norm, we will have to junk all our recently purchased media hardware.
And what about catch up tv and films with the crap broadband speeds that we have to put up with if it is sent down the line in 4k it will take 24hrs to watch a film

Re: ZTE launches 4K p60 Ultra HD STB

4k tv's are not as expensive as they were last year but they are still expensive and the one who will buy this tv has to pay a large amount of money.
It would be nice if someone could tell us the price of th 4k ultra HD receiver that is mentioned above and if the broadcasters are planning to broadcast ultraHD channels.

People are saying that 2014 will be the year of ultraHD but until now only a few movements - projects we have seen.

Nothing is broadcast in 4k, test channels only.
I am afraid that it will be the same as in 3D technology.

I personally think it will fare a lot better than 3D, the fact that you can immediately see the benefits in picture quality, without the need to wear uncomfortable glasses has to be a major positive. Hopefully in the next few months prices for this and other receivers will start to emerge

as for every new technique, prices are very high at start, and then decrease litle by litle

4k is the future but for now is only for enthusiasts and at early market stages .

and it will take some time before broadcasts will start

I saw a 42" 4k tv on display recently and had remastered 4k movies playing. Quality was brilliant. A lot Better than normal Hd. Price was £2000 though!

I believe that prices will be dropped dramatically after 2 years when the OLED tv's will be come in market in mass production whith resonable prices.

All people then, will be interesting about oled tv's and all these tv's will be 4k.

There are tests on satellites for live 4K transmission but has not yet confirmed or denied rumours it may offer a 4K service over the period of the World Cup.
Companies also intend to create 4K media distribution for online and TV distribution over 2014 and 2015.

It's very strange the fact that already there are some 4k tv's as well as the ZTE receiver with 4K quality on market but there is no 4K service.
So, why do I need 4K receiver or 4K tv if I can't take advantage of this?

Maybe it's too early for 4K technology.

                            hi kalpikos

that's true, but when someone really needs to buy a new tv (broken or so), consider buying a 4k (if price is 'aceptable') - I was one of the first to buy a Sony full hd 40" that time (really expensive at that time, but still worth it)
