Question about motorised dish

This may sound like a daft idea but as the old saying goes “if your don’t ask then you’ll never find out !”

Several years ago we bought a TV for the back bedroom and rather than installing a T piece in the existing external aerial I bought a new aerial and installed it in the loft and the picture quality is as good as our main TV.

The question is and because of the high winds that we are now experiencing, would I still receive reception from the satellites if I installed my motorised dish in my loft !

if the pole is well installed and it's around 80mm diameter it will work perfectly.
do u have an actuator?
is the dish a big one?

I have a 86cm Penta Dish & TM2300 Disq Motor.
And I don't think my wife would be too happy if I was to install the dish in "her" garden !

You need to have a clear and transparent line of sight to receive the minute signal that your dish would be receiving, putting a dish in an attic space would cause all sort of problems with reflections etc, even installing a dish behind glass would cause severe degradation to the signal. So the answer is a definite NO. Maybe a box of chocs and some flowers and a Pretty Please might help.

I agree with the others: inside not possible. Can't you be a bit 'creative' in your garden: put it at the end, depending on your orientation perhaps behind a tree, high on a pole, ... - or against some wall?

Looks like it's the back garden then !

A U shaped brick wall with a cover of some kind for the high winds. I'll have ot run that one by the trouble & strife eh !

Tell her it is a umbrella that you are putting up for the bbq area when summer comes and just build the barby near it, I would think she would not know till it is to late.

Build small altana in garden, and on roof install dish so it's not to high, or eventually an arbor. It should look good, and will be practical at the same time. And you will have an extra present for wife.

the motorized dish setting is very difficult work
and this work for only very experienced dish fitter

We used to have a dish indoors at my office when we were doing some development work for $ly many many years ago. The dish was over 1m in size and it stood inside the office looking out through a double glazed tinted office window. It worked ok but we were only picking up 28.2e and we are in the south of England. It took a dish over 1m to get a signal a 45cm dish could have got outside!

So... technically yes you can get a signal through glass but it really isn't worth considering... hiding it in the garden is a much better idea. I just wish I could convince my wife we should 'hide' a 1.2m+ dish in our garden!

So you can check each satellite coverage with dish size for the different regions.

If you use indoor installation of the dish you will loose 20 - 30% of the signal level/quality.

Even trees can spoil signal reception when they have a leafs. Try as everybody else - highest point where you can install the dish. Distance to the receiver should not be longer than 30 meters.

Maybe get a dish and paint it the same colour as your brickwork, to camouflage it a bit.

Motorized dish allignment:

First of all the motor holder must be aligned to be strictly vertical (aligned with Level Aligner left to right and front to back)

Place motor with the dish to the motor holder in north to south line (the position of the motor should be at 0 point - read it from the bottom). So the dish with the LNB should be faced directly to the south when motor is in 0 position.

The dish alignment shod be only vertical up or down (depends of your Latitude angle - check your latitude angle with ****** earth - point on the spot on the map that you like -> right mouse click -> "what is here" you should get in ****** search field something like this 51.501847,-0.140609, so 51.5 is your latitude angle(Buckingham Palace is 51.501847,-0.140609)).

Elevation of your dish should be 51.5 degrees including elevation of the motor holder if you are at Buckingham Palace.

Scan all channels with your receiver on the other sat dish already pointed at astra 19.2 and tune it to some free channel (RTL, VOX...)

Connect LNB to motor and to the receiver.

Next step is to manually drive motor to satellite that you have scanned and tunned channel - Astra 19.2. Buttons for East or West driving are on the bottom of the motor (be precise when you manually driving motor) Do not change channel.

At this point you only should align your dish UP or Down and correct motor Left or Right !!!

Be careful move dish or motor by millimeters if you have done all right by now. If you have picture on the receiver correct only if you have week signal.
