    Premier League targets Welsh pubs

The Premier League is prosecuting 100s of Welsh pubs showing "illegal" foreign channels.

Have they not tried this before and lost, there was a case I think on the south coast a female landlady and it was declared under European law to be legal to use a foreign card as there are no boundries.

That's right - Karen Murphy in Portsmouth.

The way they are pursuing these cases revolves round the use of the Premier League logos and copyright.

        Update:

The Premier League wins it first case. The pub landlord must pay £65,000 legal costs.

Eventually there will be no pubs left in the UK, there's no money to be made in beer any more, if pubs can't afford the astronomical charges for sport to get people in the door they might as well give up.

I can't believe they used the old copyright trick, seems to be everyone's favourite tactic these days.

Reading the story, it seems almost contradictory of what happened to the pub landlady down in Portsmouth.

The "copyright infringment"; surely that should be taken up with the Danish TV channel airing the match? The landlord has no real control over what is broadcast over the satellite.

It's not the foreign tv channel, they have the rights to broadcast the match. The issue is the pub doesn't have the rights to redistribute the copyrighted material because the Danish TV subscription T&C won't allow public broadcast in the UK.

That is the whole idea for Sly going about it, they can not stop the match re-transmission, but as they own the copyright of the extra bits, the fact that the landlord has no control over these and is showing them, gives Sly all the ammunition they need to bring a case.

                Regards Mobley3
