    Lanzarote

I've just come back from holiday in Lanzarote, we go to the same place each winter for some much needed sun. The guys that own the bar next to our hotel have been just recently been convinced by some local company to buy an 'IPTV' box.

They were told that because it's getting harder to watch $ky sports they should switch to this new box. They paid a one of fee of €700! They then said that if too many people used the bars wi-fi the picture would freeze. I initially thought it was streaming the whole thing over the internet but then I realised they were actually card sharing a normal Astra 28.2e feed.

I'm convinced these guys have been sold a card sharing system without actually realising what they have bought.

Has anyone else in the Canary Islands heard of this kind of deal being offered?

It's quite usual in Spain and in some italian regions...
But it's strange they don't know at all: usually they don't understand how it works, but know exactly it's not legal.
    But the price looks huge.

      Re: Lanzarote

I can't imagine that this is legal and if not, they definitly know that it's not legal.
And it sounds a bit strange that they use this in a bar for their guests.

In germany you will have really trouble (within 1 or 2 days and very expensive) doing this in such (official) places.

        Re: Lanzarote

I have heard a very similar story about Spain
one my colleagues who owns a property in south Spain was approached and they guy (who according to him was English) gave him a similar story about IPTV box.
But then he mentioned something about a dish, which made my colleague confused and he ended up telling the guy for F*** off

So I guess it must be group of them trying to target people who are not familiar with these set-ups and making money out of them.

There are quite a number of companies offering services like this to pub but very expensive
don't think it is legal but you never know --http://www.pubentertainmentsystems.co.uk/#!pub-iptv/c23os

            Re: Lanzarote

It is not Legal not these type of systems anyway basically it is card sharing but slightly different the server has the official receivers or similar with cards then these are hooked into a PC and captured and then sent out via a Multicast Router.

Your talking for a decent setup £1000's of pounds i would hazard a guess at around £20,000 so you can see this is not the usual person in the house card sharing his local out

Probably a consortium of the criminal fraternity who have the finance to put into this kind of venture, Latest i have seen is Full $ly package with Bein Sports, OSN,Nova etc.. all streamed for around £20 a month just buy a Mag250 for around £85 and your up and running

Yes some ridiculous prices being charged her in Spain the last one I saw was 250 for the box and then 30.00 per month. It started in a big way early last year but a lot of these outfits disappear after a few months.

                off topic slightly.
a lot of ex-pats in cyprus have gone this way, ntv.mx this company also uses mag250 box, and is very reasonable, price wise. (all british tv, s*y spts etc)
no doubt these symtems will be very popular soon, to many over europe.
Do not send me iptv/cline requests,

technical or iptv/cline server questions in PM!

                I will not answer!

                  Re: Lanzarote

I think the guys in the bar know its not legal, though I really don't think they understand its running on a card sharing basis. I'm surprised they both with $ky Sports as they have another Humax box with a genuine paid for beIN Sports package. Most things on $ky appear to be on beIN 11, the premiership matches are even presented by Richard Keys and Andy Gray which is a bit of a blast from the past.

I'm guessing no one has seen any companies advertising this kind of deal online? I'm assuming it's a dodgy man with a van setup knocking on pub doors!

There is definitely a knowledge short fall out there. Another bar I go to a lot has three $ky HD boxes with viewing cards registered in the UK and Ireland. They can no longer show $ky Sports 3 as the boxes won't pick up the signal.

You can't manually tune a $ky HD box to the alternative transponder as the manually add channel function won't let you select the right symbol rate.

If they just put a viewing card in something like a Dreambox they'd be laughing. I even saw the guy from the local Telco/Sat company playing around with the system and he hasn't pointed this out to them. Maybe I need to move there permanently and setup a new business!

                    Re: Lanzarote

Of course this is not legal.
I have also heard about this type of sharing that is called "iptv sharing".

In most cases on the net they are scammers and sell nothing to the people.

In other cases, they ask a large amount of money and give to the users a mag 250 box locked with some channels that can't be shared with the traditional metods (c@ard sharing) but with very low quality and of course freezing when many users are watching the same channel.
Maybe this is the future of sharing but still now there are many problems.

hi,ok legal or not, the uk citizen needed , the next month new sat on 28.2 est

then more chanels desepere for uk expat in spain...ect

the alternative is iptv , but my advice is buy your own box 90 pound plus shiping,is reliable

box , but have to chose the good provider , the good price is 35/40 euros for reliable provider.

need good internet provider with minimum 5 mega, and normaly never pay year ,just pay every 3 months.

so you can change the provider if rryou not happy.

i have clients over tenerife and spain with not probleme.

another bad issue is if you give wifi in bar or in house you download music,movies...ect weel freze , if you have fibre optic internet not prob.

just for let you no in the end the month you have to registry your jsc card with serial number the reciever or you lost pictures

                      hope thats help

about legal or not original skybox with uk card sky is not legal in spain.....ect cee

                        Re: Lanzarote

The lack of knowledge amongst purchasers of these systems astounds me to be honest.

I have argued at great lengths with a number of owners of bars/pubs both home and abroad that these systems are illegal. Some don't even realise they are c@rd sh@ring! I even know of pubs that have told their owners/breweries they have bought "one off payment" subscriptions to $ky and the breweries have happily accepted this as ok and perfectly legal! Madness!

It is inevitable they'll get caught and fined at some point as they are publicly and perhaps brazenly (sometimes innocently) flouting the law. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes when it comes to paying a hefty fine. I'll bet the breweries who once okayed these systems are nowhere in sight when it comes to backing their tenants when the law gets involved.

                          Re: Lanzarote

You are right, the lack of knowledge is crazy. One bar I know has 12 tv screens capable of showing 4 different sat channels at once, the bar's entire business model is based upon the ability to show every sport/match possible.

They show $ky sports 4 but not 3 as the default transponder for 3 can't be received. When I checked on kingofsat and found a secondary $ky sports 3 channel on the same transponder as their active $ky sports 4 channel they didn't know that if they just took a viewing card from the crappy $ky HD box and put it in their Linux box they could get SS3 back, they'd been without it for months!

I guess all the people in Lanzarote know what they are doing is not legal, they all get their viewing cards from the UK or Ireland, though I don't think they realise how illegal sharing is!

Has anyone heard of the Spanish / Canary Island authorities doing anything about it?

I suspect using UK sourced viewing cards is completed ignored by the authorities, I'm not sure it's actually illegal, I know it's against $ly terms & conditions but has anyone ever been prosecuted?

Sharing is another matter though. I wonder if any of the sharing servers are based in the Canaries?
