    bt sport

    interesting news today my friends,

but a lot of fta on other channels will be lost, itv etc

    --------------------------
BT Sport has announced an exclusive £897m three-year deal to broadcast live Champions League and Europa League football matches.

The broadcaster has won the rights to show all 350 fixtures each season from 2015 after talks with European governing body Uefa.

A BT spokesman said it had "shaken up the UK TV market" and would make some matches, including finals, free to air.

british TV channel BT Sport bought the rights to show matches of Champions League and Europa League from 2015 to 2018, according to the official website of the company. the total amount of money paid by the TV channel will amount to about EUR 1.07 billion - almost €357 million for each of the three seasons. this is a new record for the contract on a show of European club football.

Does this mean that we are not getting any more FTA on ITV?

          hi foxy6800

what exactly do you mean? ITV will stay fta, but lost the rights for those matches, so they won't be shown on ITV anymore (that's how I understood it).

            sorry,

this is exactly what I meant to say, no more FTA Champions League on ITV!?
This is bad, as not every one can afford to have package TVs and pay extortionate prices for TV companies. I hardly can convince myself with paying the TV licence, as there is hardly anything worth watching, but paying as I am forced to.

              seems thats the case,
itv will still show the odd couple matches/finals.
but what i read is this big gamble, an expensive one too, and for the fans.

              their next big gamble,

              "premiership" !!! in the future.

According to radio 4 on the today program this will lead to cheaper sports
packages because for the first time Sly is facing some real competition, BT is
doing this to promote it's broadband and streaming platform and like toby69 says
lets see what happens with the premiership rights

                      Re: bt sport

From 2015 there will not be any Champions league games on ITV at all the rights for the Highlights are still ongoing and from what i can gather either he BBC or ITV will snatch these up.

BT have promised that some games including the Final will be shown FTA how this will happen is anyone's guess

The people who are in charge of the situation are only interested in making money
to pay the outrageous amounts being paid to clubs and players, it is fueled by pure greed, the amounts that these "Sportsmen" are demanding, and getting, has become a complete joke, sadly it is the ordinary person who suffers, no wonder that fans are continually looking for alternative means to watch.

                        Regards Mobley3
