Re: Cheapest way to go smart

Hi just buy a cheap android media box and convert your tv to a smart tv with full internet browsing. and watch films in 95% of video formats.
also if you have a old xbox hack xmbc on to it you will get the same functions, also films tv from around the world, football, and all sports, and music.

Look at the Raspberry Pi, about £30 and does pretty much all you need.

          Hi mate

Yoy can easy find a cheap android media box to do what you want.
The latest boxes have many abilities and even can run XBMC media center.

          I suggest you the following:

-G-Box Midnight MX2 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Dual Core XBMC Streaming Mini HTPC TV Box Player , it's price is 75€.

It's not a very cheap box, but I think it's worth its money because convert your tv set to a media center.

Couldn't work out how to plug this into the scart socket myself...

Seriously, the Raspberry Pi is a Linux computer that will run XBMC and gives options on connecting to a TV, loads of Apps available and Android coming soon if it isn't already out there.

              Anyone any other recomendations?

Hi try curry's just released today set top box it costs £14.99 with sky sports 1 day pass or 29.99 with 3 months sports pass.
It connects to iplayer and turns a ordinary tv into a smart tv with internet browsing and catch up tv etc.
Usually only available from sky don't know if there any snags but if it still works after the 1 day subscription it will be a bargain.

Re: Cheapest way to go smart

Look at this bargain Now tv box for only £10 you can't go wrong.

                  __https://shop.nowtv.com/

Unconfirmed reports claim Plex has been installed to it

The Now TV box has been found to still provide access to the Roku development mode. This allows you to sideload one developer version app to your device. Not all apps are made available in this way but Plex is!

How to install Plex onto your Now TV box

                  1) Enable dev mode on your box by pressing:
                  HOME 3 times
                  UP 2 times
                  RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT

(if this doesn't work then make sure you are not leaving long pauses between button presses)

                  2) Enable developer mode on the screen that comes up.

                  3) Download Plex client for Roku from

                  4) Open web browser on your computer and open http:// (example. -http://192.168.1.100

                  5) Click browse and navigate to the Plex.zip you downloaded

                  6) Click the install button

                  7) Run plex
Liked my post then push the sigpic button.

@Coley. Just had a look at that box. At £30.00 it sounds ok. What will it do that the now tv box wont? and is it wifi?
Not having much experience with streaming, and not having unlimited broadband. Is it easy to exceed limits?

PLEX is a based on XBMC therefore once you install it and the unsupported apps
plugin you get things like Navi x, ice film, let me watch this etc... To do this you
still install plex server on your pc and the box can then stream from there but
you can still work on your pc at the same also if you have a network drive then
you can stream your photos, home movies or your saved movie collection.

Hi sataday, you already have the answer on plex.

As far as I know streaming usage depends on the resolution of the video. For example hd roughly 1gb per hour and for sd 4-500 mb per hour if your broadband is limited you can soon use it up.

                              Hope this helps nml
