    hi dawbrain

depends a bit on which sat on Astra 2 (some new ones have less reach) - take a look to have an idea on eg _hxxp://***.satbeams.com/footprints or _hxxp://nl.kingofsat.net/beams.php

In greece - oh oh, with normal dishes nearly impossible. Even in east germany nearly no chance. 28,2° is intentionaly focused on gb.

if not impossible, let's say somewhat tuff:

          Dish Sizes in Greece

          [... ]

As you move further South and East, so the dish size increases.

For example, in the island of Paxos, and other parts of Western Greece, a 2.8m dish is needed.

Areas around Athens will require a 3.4m dish and a dish size of 4m is needed for Crete.

or ... try a antenna pattern (interference net) of 2 or 3 small (or normal)

          dishes ...

I know in Paphos Cyprus you need a minimum 2.7m dish and then you don't get much. Only the southern european beams

                Hi dawbrain

In order to have a good reception of Astra 28.2E in Crete you need more than 3-4 m sat dish and at least 2m dish for the easy beams.
All above info are from reception reports and maybe is not accurate.

I would say that the reception of Astra 28.2E in Crete is imposible.
You need a very big dish and that's make the cost very high.

This is a photo that I took two years ago, during my holydays in Crete.
Look at this english pub in Malia...I was concerned about the house...

                      Re: what size dish

Look at the ERIP of your position. This may help you:

For a normal LNB (0,6db). Better Hardware can give a bit better result.

EIRP (dB) / Dish size required in cm

                      38 / 150

                      37 / 180

                      36 / 240

                      35 / 300

                      34 / 360

                      32 / 450

                      30 / 570

OK, perhaps it's all a bit theoretical...

what a lot of people dont realise is the along with the size requirement is the gain of the dish this can make a difference if for instance a 1.2m was the requirement you may find by getting a better gain dish (usually higher quality) you can get same signal from say a 1m dish years ago i had a gregorian which was a 1.2m it out performed 1.5m dishes so if you look also at the gain of the dish as well as all the well informed posts above

Totally agree with kontoni, at least 5 Mtr to get anything useful.
