    Yes mate,
There are already some Ultra HD TV sets on the stores but the price is very very high.
You can find some models on 55" for 4000€ to 85" for 35000€

As about the difference between HD and Ultra HD, the last (UHD) TVs have a resolution of four times ‘normal’ high definition sets.
A full HD TV will have a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, while an ultra high definition model will have a 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution.

When we look at the speed of the introduction of hd (+ 3d), it's very slow - so most probably the day one buys a ultra hd tv, it would be way too expensive, by the time some channels or other sources can will come with ultra hd, prices will be much less. So, first buyers will probable be some 'tec-freaks' or so ...

As new information to this topic:

Sky_de will start test transmissions during the IFA (6. bis 11. september) and IBC (6. bis 11. september) this year in ultra-hd with the new h265 on astra 19,2. This can be received (only) with prototype-receivers from Technicolor on the IFA und Pace on the IBC.

          It's going on...

When the prices both for receivers and tv's will drop enough, then we could look at this technology.
Now it's very early and sure together with dropping of the prices will be improved the technology of the receivers.

The human eye cannot see big real differences between those technologies. I think it´s marketing and search for money. The real world still's on SD.

                  A short remembering:
What was the price of a 50" flat tv with full-HD resolution 10 years ago (if availible) and what is it now...??!!

I also don't know if someone really needs this technologie at the moment.

Yesterday I`ve read the next Samsung Galaxy Note SIII will have building a new 4K screen and videocamera. So now I think Ultra HD 4K is closer than I thought last days.
I continue thinking this is a crazy world. We can't spend our money every year buying a new TV, STB, Smart Phone, etc...
Please let us enjoy with our last adquisitions some time.
                    Crazy world.
                    Best regards.

The low inflation in europe is calculated by falling prices of electrical hardware and the fact, that we all buy lots of such hardware.
So politics will support new standards as well.

It seems another world, thinking that once upon a time in Italy, when I was a little boy, beginning of 70s, the government slowed down, for opposite reasons, the color TV...

                          In addition another information:

There's (up to now) no official standard for ultra-hd on tvs.

So don't buy any 4k-tvs or you risk that this tv doesn't really work in future! Waiting will be worth it...

it is better to wait for a common standard otherwise we will see the same stoy as some DTT decoders at beginnings...

must wait for prices to fall to the point that consumers buy it rise. While being can only go see how things sortitn and speculate about the future.

Image Resolution is a quantity of dots (picture elements, or pixels) per measure of lenght. So if your screen will be like ipad's for sure even fullHD, i.e. 1920x1080 is excessive. If your screen is 16 m x 9 m size, 1920*1080 is low enough resolution, for 1 pixel of such screen will be about 8cm x 8cm size. Human eye easily catch the difference in 8x8 cm pixel and 2x2 cm pixel.
I mean screen resolution is not an absolute value, it's kind of relational.

35 mm film used in cinema has a resolution much more high then full hd, for the pixel in this film is size of atom of silver.

                                Do we need ultra hd?
                                Me -no.
My TV set is 10 years old Hyundai plasma and it only has 768 vertical pixels. HD channels shows better then SD, but there's no difference between 720 and 1080.
But we cannot stop the time. Big res is a future of video.
