Re: New generation set top boxes

the new generation of users have been fed with
    - apple touch-and-go
    - android, the linux-based apple rival
    in the baby bottle
as being new, popular, fun, attractive, easy depot, intuitive interface

    against linux
being tagged as an os for geek, hacker, guru, expert and outriders

being new, popular, fun, attractive, easy depot, intuitive interface
sounds like coca-cola credo, marketlingly correct

    and linux also does have
    - new component
    - fun, intuitive and attractive interface
    - easy depot
it sounds like the marketlingly evil

of course: linux is free, open
    but
you've to pay : you've to learn it to be free

this is the boost argument for satrcvr vendor: propose an easy image through android to gain this specific user market part

Re: New generation set top boxes

The price is about $55 dollars from china post free, but don,t forget it is only a android media centre, you can do everything that box does on a pc with xmbc or boot android live from a usb drive.

Re: New generation set top boxes

Let me clear things up guys, many IPTV android based set top boxes use the same cpu! and thats why i believe fandm is confused, the device im talking about is using the same cpu however has a dvb s2 tuner - the following link is for the iptv model with nearly same specifications however no tuner:
            _http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/790784452/High_quality_Amlogic_AML8726_Contex_A9.html
The real model with the tuner here:
            _http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/642362736/******_android_4_0_android_tv.html
I'd rather get things cleared up before buying a load, or buying a sample as they are not really that costly, its 45-55$.
fandm there is a tuner inside the box... look.

            More info about tuner:
            _http://www.airoha.com.tw/AV2011.htm
Demodulator: The DVB-S2 chip is from Availink company, AVL6211, the same chip is in AZBox Me, MiniMe

            Images/box info source:
_http://dvbdroid.info/ - the following site has many comments from users of the same device, if your that interested you can head over there and get more info, some people claim to get 325 channels - so to be honest the box is still in lets say a 'beta' stage so not that reliable.

Similar box here for $86 with shipping:
            _http://dx.com/p/es-02-android-4-0-mini-pc-******-tv-player-w-xbmc-1gb-ram-4gb-rom-coaxial-dtv-rj45-sd-206643

From deal extreme where i ordered a android dongle, and it did arrive in good condition, sadly its sold-out lol

"Don't work till now cccam, I mean cccam connect fine to server, but channels still remain blocked it's like dvbplayer don't see cccam maybe need another player, any ideas ?"

the dvbplayer and cccam are both independent 'apps' on andorid.
a comment from a user in dvbdroid

Re: New generation set top boxes

Looking at the specs on the box, seems they have just stuffed a chip in to do the bvb-s2 decoding, the box is a running android but the dvb seems to run separately from the android system, it just looks like there is a icon on the opening page to switch from android to DVB. it has its own firmware but does not really work correctly it is still beta, maybe with the right firmware it could run cccam but now it is struggling,
Also it is limited to 350 channels from reading the reports on it.
I would say stay with a Linux box that runs a android software on the side, and check on the android forums to see if you have a Linux box already to see if your processor is supported for rooting and will accept android.
Let someone else buy it and do the testing and when everything is running ok then is the time to buy.
Reguarding the price that is $55 for 100 units plus delivery then there will be import duty and vat to add depending what country it is imported to.

A quad core A9 (or A15) with 1.5 GHz is far better than MIPS as sold in VU+ (1,3 GHz). It is also cheaper because sold in high quantities (in mobile phones).
