    New generation set top boxes

Hey everyone, what do you think of the new android based DVB-S2 tuners, they do look promising especially in terms of android where the user base is quite big, and much easier to code, + a ton of apps and also XBMC is already ported to android
cccam can be ported because android is linux like enigma2 (some chinese suppliers already advertise cccam and biss so it might already be available)

Look at those images from a Chinese supplier
    hotak.en.alibaba.com/product/1077189936-217022805/2013_hot_sales_android_usb_tv_xbmc_set_top_box_dvb _s2_media_player_hd.html

might look ugly as hell, but with those features its worth it, i only hope that the A9 cortex processor is enough.

The performance seems to be very good and similar to the model MK802 second generation. The price of MK802 is between $35 and $60.

The MK802 is a android dongle aka mini pc, which doesn't support dvb s2 i believe, as for the price, im not sure but they are around 60-120 usd.

This was on my mind a long time ago. the android are the future in all devices and this look like a good option since day one. now we just have to wait for support from the developers. as far as the site that the link is taking us it just a place that other people and maybe manufactures sales they are stuff in lots for a good price. price are dropping when you get more so if some gets (lets say 10000 of those) he could sale later for a price under $100 each in ebay and elsewhere.

Yes I would Android is a flavour of Linux is Open source therefore the
manufacturer can tailor it suit them which means if they wanted to they can
leave ****** completely out of it but also if the manufacturer leaves the
firmware for the receiver open as well I am sure users would come up with any
                needed extra security features.

what do you mean trust? trust them as a company, the hardware and software? YES no problem. trust them as privacy, virus, spyware? NO but this apply for all the others too.

android on satellite boxes is not mature .
of course it has good prospects but for future.

probably promises more than linux on media player side but on satellite reception gesture linux will remain for near future dominant i think

                        I agree with above posts

Android is for simple things and can't compare to linux.
All these boxes with android are made in China, and they are just a cheap toy for someone who wants to have fan.
I will never trust an android box for my main satellite device.

you cannot run sat on a android box, you can run android on a satbox. also you cannot run run sat on xbmc but you may be able to run xmbc on a sat box if it is running a arm processor or equivilant chip
