    Vu+Solo2 vs GigaBlue Quad

I was thinking to buy either the Vu+Solo 2 or the Gigablue Quad.
They both have a very fast processor and almost the same price.
I would just like to ask you for some advice on which of the two would be the best to buy.

    Thanks in advance

Both of these two receivers are very good. Personally, I would choose gigablue quad because it has changeable tuners, the box doesn't need a cooler fan, and the remote control of giga is faster.

      here

      you can read this

The stock firmware image actually crashed on first boot for us and seems the same case for others as well. So you are well advised to have a fresh image handy when installing for the first time.

but creates such an Reality Distortion Field that
the market is enthusiast with it

If you don't need the extra tuners, I'd go for the solo2. Transcoding, HBBTV and gigabit lan make the solo2 slightly better In terms of specs. Also think you get better support with the solo2.
The quad was a bit buggy at first, don't know if they've sorted that out yet.
If you're happy with 2 tuners I'd definitely go for the solo2. Or save a bit more and get the duo2.

i think the Vu solo2 would be a better choice because it has more support, and that's all you need for a good receiver, open source and community support

We have implemented a new kernel and new driver in our firmware for the GigaBlue HD QUAD receiver.

To use the new kernel and driver, you need to completely flash your HD QUAD receiver.

              Re: Vu+Solo2 vs GigaBlue Quad

The gigablue had some problems with picture quality because of the drivers. I don't know if these problems have been solved. The gigablue doesn't have support from openpli.

Another plus for the solo2 is the blackhole image support.

                        Re: Vu+Solo2 vs GigaBlue Quad

Thank you very much guys for your advice.

You really gave me a new point of view.
I'm very sure that I need a receiver with good support, as I'm coming from the dreambox world and I used to have everything I needed through the dreambox support.

The second thought is that I don't really need more than 2 tuners, as I think Gigablue offers.

                        So, I'm very close to Vu+ solo2.
Is there anyone that can convince me to buy the Gigablue ?

                          Re: Vu+Solo2 vs GigaBlue Quad

                          hey, i found this

                          __h..p://linux-tv.com/receiver/vu-solo2-review/

the reviewer team seems enthusiast with vu+ than with gigablue because:

                          The picture quality is great.
Certainly much better than the GigaBlue Quad when it was released.
To be fair the GigaBlue Quad has improved a lot since
but still I rate the Vu+ Solo2 better.

You can set the video output up to 1080p 50/60Hz. If you need 1080p24, 1080p25 or 1080p30 you can do this with the auto resolution plugin.

The Vu+ Solo2 serves well as a media player ...
... Do not expect every file format out there to be supported. ...
But common mp3, flac, avi and mkv files are handled pretty well.
WMV, FLV, 3GP. seem not to be working so Vu+ have some work to do in this area.

...on-the-fly transcoding of content into a variety of formats.
The transcoding gives you the opportunity to stream tv from the Solo2 to your pc at the office or your tablet.
It works both inside and outside of the home network, ... port frowarding ...

The Solo2 has impressed us with
its fast booting and channel zapping and
it is already widely supported by many Image teams.
The Gigabit Ethernet and Hbb-TV support works straight away unlike the recently reviewed GigaBlue Quad.

                          __h..p://linux-tv.com/receiver/gigablue-hd-quad-review/

                          [ ... they rewied both gigablue and vu+ ... ]

If you are in the market for the very best twin tuner receiver then look no further than the VU+ Solo2.
If you want pluggable tuner support and a more high end front display then you can wait for the VU+ Duo2.

Another thing that someone wrote in other thread related to solo2 is the fact of this box is only working with just one core, at the moment. Is it good or bad news?

                            regards

                              yes, i remember this issues,

i must report here that i did such a cpu quick load test on a recent modile thinkpad dual core 1750 Mhz, with just htop command:

it was a number crunching process (like video conversion with mencoder)

the process was executed on one cpu at a time, and periodically, switched to the second cpu,

i remember to conclude at that time, it was nice to let out the heath, and keep the fan low, and therefore to keep low the battery consumption

but never, both cpu were running together for this unique process

if i started a secund heavy process, like openoffice, then both cpu were running, and the fan started

                              conclusion
just test solo2+ 2x1300mhz, on heavy duty, and monitor the cpu charge with such a htop utility, statically compiled for mips.
