    Enigma2 and Wifi

    Hi guys,
Since i'am gonna take my STB in Hollidays and that where i'll be i will only have wifi and no ethernet, i'am wondering if we can use a way to make work a wifi dongle with enigma2 ?
My stb is a Clarck tech et9000.
And if yes, can i use any wifi dongle ?

    Thank's by advance.

    Re: Enigma2 and Wifi

    hi,

i understand your present hw configuration as follow

    [ rcvr - internal ethernet interface ] - wired lan - router - modem - isp

and you want to test this

    [ rcvr - ethernet dongle] - wifi lan - router - modem - isp

    just try it

the problem might rise up if rcvr does not have the ethernet dongle driver (or in linux language the module, - loaded into the linux kernel ... )

if no success with it, ie, the only available net interface is the rcvr net , try to transit to a local lan, then the site wifi lan:

    [ rcvr - internal ethernet interface ] - wired lan - [ router - wifi ] - wifi lan - modem -isp

    hope this helps

(pleased to hear from your experiments ...)

Maybe yes. This chipset maybe are compatibile (rt2870, rt2070 or rt8187l), depends of Your Clarke Version. This chipset are compatibile with Version 4

        Re: Enigma2 and Wifi

        hi,

also, consider the wifi propagation loss:

        - also i should prefer a usb-wifi with an antenna,
rather than a dongle, for a better wifi radiation ...

        - or a with a cable ( <3m ) from the rcvr and the dongle

        - or to put the rcvr and the dongle close to the window, and not in a corner of the room !

and for all antenna config, some emg radiation deflector or shield might be consider

This little device should help you cgac99, the Vonets VAP11N. See here:

          h**p://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Dongle-Vonets-802-11B-Dreambox/dp/B00BMJL32W

It converts pretty much any device with an Ethernet port into a wifi enabled device. The setup is pretty easy and you shouldn't need to alter your receiver's network settings.

For to be sure, you can use a wifi bridge (wifi->ethernet).

My advice is to buy a cheap wifi router such as TP-LINK TL-WR841N (cost € 20), flash openwrt on it and configure as "gateway client".
It's the best you can ask about sensitivity and reliability.

Last suggestion: if your wifi signal is too weak, buy the "ND" version (detachable antenna) and plug to the router a directional wifi antenna with rp-sma connector.

to list the drivers loaded into the linux os (called module) try this:

--- open console session onto the rcvr

                telnet dboxip

                admin
                pw

                --- list loaded module:
                $ lsmod |grep rt
                ...
                rt2500pci 14650 0
                rt2x00pci 5210 1 rt2500pci
                rt2x00lib 33886 2 rt2500pci,rt2x00pci
                ...

It's something related to your image: look for drivers for your image and install as you would do with any driver.
                    That's all.

You could use a stylus to attack in wifi ethernet port of the decoder. On online stores there are many.

                        Hello,
                        Do you have a smartphone?
With that device, you can enable tethering function to let other device be connect to the net.

                        Bye

i peek this out of the web:

                          __h..p://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=27320
                          __tp://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=1&PFid=1&Level=6& Conn=5&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true

                          ...

The RTL8187 is a family of two closely-related 802.11b/g MAC/BBP ICs, based on Realtek's earlier RTL8180 and RTL8185 PCI MACs. The 8187 is a USB device, and is often found in cheap USB Wi-Fi keys and (in Mini-PCI Express form) in low-end laptops, particularly late-model Gateways. The latest linux-image for Debian lenny, 2.6.24-1, ships with a driver for the RTL8187L, but this driver does not support the different radio in the RTL8187B (ID 6). Changing the USB ID table in the existing driver does not help.

                          ...

                          The native solution

Realtek has released drivers that work, for the most part, under 2.6.23, but they require some work to get going. "Cuervo" has released a modified version of the driver that compiles properly under 2.6.24 and fixes some issues at __://www.datanorth.net/~cuervo/rtl8187b/; this is the driver set I will be working with here.

                          Getting started

Download the driver from cuervo's site and follow the instructions. You will need to have GCC and your kernel's linux-headers packages installed; apt-get install build-essential will pull in GCC and some other useful tools.

If you want, you can install the .ko files that it generated into /lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/drivers/net/wireless, but you will need to remove the ieee80211 and mac80211 subdirectories from /lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/net for modprobe to work.

Also, if you need WEP, make sure to put "ieee80211_crypt_wep-rtl" into /etc/modules.

                          Things to watch out for

                          * This driver does not support WEP in Restricted mode. It will cause a kernel panic if you try it. WEP in Open mode works, as does unencrypted mode. I haven't tried WPA, but I've heard it has issues.

                          * The wireless strength meter doesn't work properly. Also, scanning fails with an "Operation not permitted" error.
so, an idea to dig in !
