    Re: usb-hub on sat-receiver

    The hdd is usb 3.0.
This means I max is 900 mA. So the hdds are faster but need more power.

    The usb-port is usb 2.0. There: I max = 500 mA

That's the reason why I identified the power consumption as problem. So for all users of extern hdds: usb 3.0 hdds on usb-2.0 port (without active hub) will often make power problems.

As an alternative to a powered hub, you could use one of these:

      h**p://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-feet-Cable-External-Drive/dp/B003HHK576

Provided you have another USB port available this should give you 1,000 mA of current, enough to run your 900 mA hard disk drive.

        These y-cables don't really work on sat-receivers.
Many receivers have only one usb-port or only one on the same side of the receiver. And if there are e.g. 2 ports at the backside, they are often parallel connected, so that such a cable is more or less useless.

By the way, your suggestion is an usb2 cable which doesn't really help with usb3.

You can get USB 3.0 compatible ones, I just linked to one to show the configuration. You'd obviously need to get one appropriate to your hardware port configurations.

This cable is USB 3.0 compatible:

          h**p://www.amazon.co.uk/Usb3-0-Male-Micro-Cable-Mobile/dp/B003RTZBTQ

I'm surprised that you've had trouble with these cables before. I've used these types of cable on satellite boxes with success.
