It's a high end receiver much like you get high end cars, Pc's, Clothing, etc.
You don't have to spend the extra money, But the choice is there.
I am seriously considering buying the Duo2 as I seriously like the Improved transcoding feature.
Once I trade in my solo2 it'll cost me about £175-£200. which I don't mind spending on this beast of a machine.

First and foremost this is a satellite receiver and it appears to me that VU are following in the footsteps of Dream Multimedia by over pricing.

If you just watch satellite television then a £130 Enigma2 Receiver will do exactly what this does, I owned a Solo2 and sold it as it does nothing more than any of my other satellite receivers do and that is to watch a satellite television channel on.

I may be tempted when these drop in price to around £250 but until then the Prism Cube is looking very good value

The duo2 is not just a satellite receiver and can do a lot more than a £40 box.
Movies on demand, catchup tv, transcoding, gigabit lan, more plugins than you can shake a stick at,........... and the list goes on.
So yes, you can watch tv on both but further than that, it's not a valid comparison.
Definitely not the same thing.

I do not agree with you my friend.
You can't say that the vu+ duo2 is waste of money and you compare it with a box of £40.
The box of £40 isn't a linux receiver, neither has twin tuner, or the quality of the vu+ duo2.
It's a simple box without even support of pure mgcamd.
There are users that want only to watch a channel and nothing more, but also there are users that want something more from a receiver. They want a receiver with linux2 , fast, with more than one tuner and of course the support that the box of £40 doesn't has..

All of what you say is true, but on your pc you can do all of that for nothing. just download the right software, and your £40 box and pc can out perform a duo.

For the lovers of satscene is a great piece of art for the others is just a waste of money. Do you remember when DM8000 came out and what was it's price? There was a lot of people that bought one. Duo2 it's the top of the tops.

I would agree now with blue, kalpikos and so on actually you can't compare things like that, because there are always people from the scene that get those devices cause they are using them for different things than just watching some sat channels. Still the specs look very nicely but for me it's a price i won't spend for an reciever. But actually if someone wants or need it, it's up to him.

Just a Heads up but the Duo2 is now released in Germany as a well known UK E-Tailer gets his stock from Germany and he has informed me that they are available in limited quantities

I am in Italy and I have looked aound for this, but nothing.
