Ensure you have the right location installed !

    Hi Guys,

In March 2010 I had my Spiderbox 9000HD and motorised dish installed by an Installer because I couldn’t install the dish myself and didn’t know how to point it accurately !

Everything was fine until last week when I discovered that I was no longer getting a signal when I tried to watch CBS Action on 28.2 East. Further investigation showed the same No Signal sign on all frequencies from the Eutelsat 28A satellite which is at 28.5 East, which I had received before !

My box was setup with my Longitude as 002.0W and my Latitude as 55.5N, but according to the dishpointer web site (using my post code) my Longitude should be 003.9W and my Latitude should be 55.8N.

I have now changed my settings and hey presto, not only am I receiving the channels on Eutelsat 28A, the signal strength and quality has increased on all of the frequencies, even on JCL channels on 13 East.

It just goes to show how important it is to have the correct location installed. Happy days eh !

    good for you,

so, your motorised dish is able to rotate along longitude (obviously),

but also in azimuth elevation angle measured from the horizon. ?

and to point out your current position (longitude and latitude)

    good to know this

It's the longitude that matters. Just in case your dish hasn't been set up "spot on", you could try altering the longitude by a point or 2 either way. It might improve your signal even more.

What you should now do is try peaking your signals by switching to Diseqc to fine tune. Go to any Sat and switch Motor to Diseqc, scroll down and store the position and make a note of the position, then go to drive step and increase the step either east or west to see if your signal increases/decreases, if it increases scroll down and again hit store position. Go back up and change Motor to Usals after each so you are sure of things. You can try a few Sats in this way to see if there is any improvement. you can then change back to Usals if you want. Note that the drive position is only saved in Diseqc, you will NOT lose your Usals position.

Thank you both for parting with a piece of your knowledge. It’s good to know that I can now “tweak” individual satellite locations.

I have an MS Word document that I store all my sat. “tip bits” in. If I am not using something on a daily basis then I tend to forget how to do it, so keeping a log file on it is great for me !

JCL on 13 East was Signal 84% and Quality 72% and is now Signal 88% and Quality 94%.Good stuff !
