Some help in buying a new receiver

Hi, I currently have an Amiko Alien SHD 8900 which i have had for some time now and i am very familiar with enigma 2 and spark

I have now decided to upgrade to a twin tuner and i want to be able to put an internal hard drive in it. I have about £250.00 max to spend and i am looking at either of the following

Vu+ Duo (I have seen genuine ones for £249.00 from WOS)
or
Technomate TM Twin ( also seen for £249)

I know they are not the most up to date of both companies models and so the price has come down as they have both been superseded VU+ Solo & Tm 2T

I can't afford either of them and they are out of the question.

I would appreciate some views as to which is better (please don't just name the model but please give a reason why if possible).

I have had a vu+ duo, so can vouch for it. But i have heard good things about the TM twin.
Though I seriously think you should stretch your budget and get a solo2 from germany, think it'll cost around £280 delivered to u.k. The extra £30 is more than worth it when you consider what is under the hood.
Another suggestion is the Gigablue quad which I think can be had for just over £250 if you buy from germany.

I agree with for @bokkie for GiGaBlue HD 800 Quad.

It's a powerfull receiver with many abilities
Has a 1.3 Mhz dual core processor and it's very , very fast.

Also, has all the functions that you want and for me has a very big advantage...

can be used as iptv receiver.
I think that the future of sharing will be the iptv.

The Vu Duo and the TM-Twin are literally the same as they both use the Broadcom 7345 Chipset and Dual 400mhz processor the only difference is you have support from Blackhole on VU and no other receiver.

Personally i would opt for a cheaper solution again if your after a twin tuner the TM-2T OE is again the same as the Twin and Duo uses exactly the same hardware and costa around £219 from most e-tailers, i have a Solo2 and agree with bokkie the extra is worth it but the Gigablue Quad can be had for £269 and again uses the same chipset as Solo2 but has option for 3rd pluggable tuner which the solo2 does not although the solo2 has Gigabit Lan and the Quad does not so pretty handy for streaming your HD movies.

If your just using it for general sat viewing then the 2T OE will be fine and you will save £30

Food for thought, thanks guys. I must admit i did not know about the GiGaBlue HD 800 Quad. From what i hear they are working on iptv plugins for enigma 2 receivers and hopefully this will be introduced in the future. After all they are available for Spark. I'm really going to have to think about this as £250 was really stretching my bugget in the first place. Thanks once again

And if transcoding is something you think you could do with, then it would have to be the solo2 as well.
In my opinion it is the one thing that seperates the solo2 from the competition. It's far from perfect, but I never have to miss the game again.

Try hmsat which are the official vu+ retailers in Germany. They are pukka, and come with a 2 year warranty.
Think amazon.de is another option.

vu+solo or amiko or dream, just decide, if for server, buy all original, not to have it burned after 1-2 years, if just for watching, then can buy even chinese.

It's 1300 MHz

GigaBlue HD Quad has a 1300 MHz MIPS BCM7356 processor from Broadcom.
Also, has memory of 1024 MB DDR3 / 512MB NAND.
As standard it comes with two fixed DVB-S/S2 Satellite Tuners with two optional slots to add additional plug and play DVB-C2/T tuners.

if you're familiar with the Amiko, buy another amiko! for example Amiko Alien2 Triple+ plus (2 SAT + T2).
if you want to change, take Sunray SR4 Triplo Tuner + Wifi, has the opportunity to put the usb dtt.
