Personally, I don't think you can beat the OpenViX images. Fantastic usability, regular updates and great forum support. You won't go far wrong with their images.

I cant be 100% sure, but is there a vix image for the 800hdse?
I don,t have one of these boxes but most people appear to go for sif or try the new merlin image.
As I said I don't have one of these boxes but in general try a few yourself and you will find one that suits you, different people will prefer different images.

As usual, there is not an absolute answer to this question.
You may find a very stable image but missing some features you want, or the opposite, or you would prefere a "thin" image, or rich of features ... so it's always something related to user needs and preferences, combined with image stability.

In my opinion the best image is that one which is a bit modified by yourself (if you are able to do it by yourself). Many features are often add-ons which can be built in by yourself.
If you can't do this, see post #4.

it is difficult to answer that as the images don't support every Linux reciever.
Blackhole for example only supports vu+.
            but I really like vix.

              Hi

I think that vix team gives very good images,
but as other mates said is difficult to say which image is the best because of many factors, including the personal preference.

It's always a personal choise, the best way to know is to try out different images, easiest way is to install one as flash and other images with meoboot. This way you can switch between images with boot of your receiver.
