    Astra 2.8 or other satellite

    Hi

I am based in the U.K and have only ever tuned to Astra 2.8.

There is a list of about 20 other satellites i could use on my skybox i was wondering which other satellites i could use without moving my dish and would i get any additional channels.

    cheers

You would not be able to receive any other sats with your present set-up unless you are prepared to spend some cash, at the very least you will need another LNB and also a Diseqc switch, the problem is that it is not very easy to add a second LNB onto the S*Y dish, some people have managed it but I would suggest getting a standard 80cm dish ( or bigger) with a proper bracket to fix the extra LNB, not that difficult to do and you could then get 19E or 13E and a lot of extra channels.

If you only have a sly dish at the moment, you really need to get a bigger one.
Get a decent 80cm - 90cm dish, stick a motor on it and you'll have loads open to you.
This is also a good option at the moment to future proof your setup. We never know when sly might go blank for all of us with the tests they seem to be doing.
You could probably do it all for about £100 if you do it yourself. Money well spent!

          Hi mate

If your dish is big enough you can buy some lnb's , a diseqc and a multifeed holder for your dish in order to make a project with more than 1 lnb on the same dish.

Also you can buy a motor to put it on your dish.
That's is my suggestion and I think is the better solution for you.
In this way you will be able to receive many satellites with the best signal and normal cost.

New pairing algo has resulted in some screens going blank.
When cards are put in original receiver to update entitlements the card no longer works in the stb, only in the original receiver..
Seems like it is only on certain models of original receiver for now.

cheers all for replys, i just got the bog standard sly dish, will look at a motorised upgrade.

I hope this is not a stupid question, just had a look at the motorised dishes on e*b*y but i cant work out if theses motorised dishes will turn automatically and if so do they need a 240v supply to them and what control the motor is it the stb.

Mate dont pay a blind bit of notice to some of these replys about going motorised and getting a bigger dish you only need to do this if you really want to, your 43cm dish will pick up various satellites without a change of lnb all you will have to do is loosen it slightly and move it and skew the original lnb again just slightly.

Satellites you could pick up with this dish are 23.5° east 19.2° east 13° east and a few others as well as some on the west side such as 30° west.

Are you sure mate that hi can receive any channel from 19.2E, 13E, 30W and 23.5E with the a dish of 43cm ?
I think it's very small and he can't receive these sattelites that you say.
For these sats he need at least 80cm dish maybe bigger.

                      @shadowmalik
                      Don't buy from internet.
Go to a local store, buy a 90-100cm dish and a good quality motor.

The stb turns the motor, no extra power source needed.
Whilst you could pick up some of the stronger sats with your current sly dish it would limit your options a great deal and wouldn't pick up all transponders with it.
This is why I suggested getting a decent 80cm - 90cm dish so you could have more available to you.

@ digicon I was under the impression that shadowmalik was trying to extend his viewing possibilities, what you are suggesting would lose him the ability to receive S*y channels if he moves the dish, which I do not think was his intention.

I can see most peoples points and they are valid about getting a motorised dish or maybe a slightly larger one and doing a multi-lnb setup.

The fact is that i see users everyday of these OpenBox/Skybox receivers and 99% have bought them just for the channels open on 28.2° east as we all know this will soon be ending as the switch off has started with the HD and the SD movies and sports.

So most questions come in from people who just have the standard mini dish and a skybox and are wondering what they can do afterwards if everyhting goes blank without having to spend any more money and the simplest solution is to move the dish to another satellite and use a share for that particular satellite.

@kalpikos if your in the UK you can receive those satellite's i mentioned with a standard Sky mini dish no problem at all.

I agree with digicon a large number of people have bought the cheap Chinese
boxes the openbox/skybox and they are interested in two things sports and
movies in English the entertainment channels that the majority still watch are
available on freeview (the big 5, bbc, itv, etc..).
So I think the discussion should be about the best satellite to point the mini dish
to get the sports/movies channels without a motorised system or a multiple
LNB system because these are already covered in other threads.
