I don't think you can run F3 as server only as client correct me if I am wrong if
that is what you are asking. If buying from a server it won't be allowed.

    ps wifi/internet is needed.

It would use very little bandwidth and I'm afraid thats the the way it goes with sat you'll need a subscription for every box you have. It is possible to have a server box with a card share to your other boxes ie (I have a Spiderbox in my livingroom if I had a sly card with the full package I could share it to other boxes in my house) Its up to you really which way you want to go but you must have a server box.

I thought sly cards were tied to a particular box, or has that changed recently?

I don't think bandwidth is any problem but the card will only work in the box it was issued to. (officially )

You were able to pair it with a linux box by getting a boxkey see this thread:

But reports about a recent new security update to the card, means that once
the card is updated when put in a sat receiver other then the one it was paired
with results in HD channels staying scrambled. The implication is not good, all
channels will eventually go HD, end of cs unless a new hack comes out.

Mahrkpat, when I understand you correct, it's necessary to pair the new cards only with a linux receiver and never change this receiver - or the hd channels are dark?

You could use a vu+ as your server, the skybox is client only.
Their have been reports of peoples screens going black after putting card in original box to update entitlements, but only on certain boxes.
It's a bit of a lottery at the moment.

As bokkie has said what people did with cs was to put the card in the original
receiver to get entitlements then put the card into a linux box which was the
server to share but now what is happening is that once the card is put in the
original receiver and then placed in server box the HD channels are going dark,
although they still work properly on the original box.
