    New receiver

My OpenBox has just died (rip) and I need a Replacement. Must have good picture, prefer twin tuners and decent 7 day epg performance. Would like hdd pvr recording and don't mind a learning curve.

    And I'm broke.

I d like a solo2 but can't afford ... is there any better than the amiko alien 2 for under 200 ukp?

    Your thoughts appreciated.

The only one i know for that kind of price would be a DM clone or a GigaBlue Combo box. They both should satisfy your needs.

      Re: New receiver

you can get a vu+ duo for around £230 from Germany. You could also get a Vu+ uno and upgrade it to twin tuner when you have more cash.
They are both over your £200 budget, but I'm afraid that's what you pay for a decent twin tuner.
There is also the Technomate TM-2T which I have heard is ok, but you might want to do a bit of research on that one. Think It's around £220.
But I would always say, try and save up the extra cash and get the solo2, It's a beauty!

DM 800 would be better choice, if twin tuner is not a priority
        Vu+ Solo2
        Dream Box 800HD,
        Neotion 3000, Skystar2, PTCL IPTV
        HP LCD W2338h
        Samsung LED 40 C5000

If you want a receiver with a twin tuner, you must pay more.
I suggest you a dreambox 800se HD clone.
I think it's worth it's money and you can do everything you want unless the twin tuner.

Thanks fellas, that's certainly got me thinking!

Like I said I WANT a Solo2 but can I do without any satellite for a couple of months... (answer = no).

Uno from germany might be the answer then...at least I get quality with an upgrade path.
(By the way, I was very happy with the little OpenBoxS10 until the psu went! )

I can recommend GigaBlue Combo too !
              Pros:
              - great performance/price ratio
              - enigma 2 based
              - support from many teams
              - it's not a clone (German quality !)
              - stable and fast (I can recommend OpenMips image)
              - dual tuner
              - no fans inside (no noise at all)
              - common interface slot (in case you have a cam module)
              Cons:
              - no internal HD (but 2 USB2.0 ports are available)
              - the second tuner is DVB-T (not DVB-S2)

If you really want a solo2 then for now why not go for something cheap like a
Skybox F3 , it will be familiar to use, and save up until you can afford it.
Uno and a upgrade path might end up costing you as much as a solo2.

Got to say I agree with mahrkpat , I can see skybox f3 for £45 from amazon or other places, then you could save up for something better. Often you get free hdmi lead and wifi dongle.

Do you know, the more I think about it the more you're right. I can get a replacement F3 very cheap , save for Solo2 and in the meantime the situation with Prismcube might become clearer...

I'm just keen to get learning about E2 - but I know it should be with the right box!

Many thanks again for all the suggestions everybody.
