    Sly new security measures

    Copied from another forum:

Here at Sky, we're working on improving our services for you. Right now, we're getting ready to carry out a security update to your Sky box. However, we're missing some important information that will allow us to do this.

    The information we need .
We need you to give us some details about your Sky box, which will allow us to update it correctly. If we're unable to do this you may lose access to some of your channels. To make sure that doesn't happen, please follow the simple steps below. They'll tell you how you can get this information to us – it's easy to do and won't take long.

    1. Press Services on your Sky remote
    2. Go to Settings
    3. Go to System Details
    4. Make a note of your
    o Version Number
    o Serial Number
    o Viewing Card Number
    o Receiver ID
(Note that not every Sky Box has a receiver ID, if yours doesn't then you don't need to do anything at this time)
    5. Go to skyviewinghelp.com to give us these details. The website is shown on the right so you can check you are in the right place.

If you do not provide these details to us – your services will stop working properly.

If you are unable to use the website you can provide us with your details by calling 08442 411 189 .

    What happens next?
Once we've got this information, we'll update your Sky box for you. It'll happen automatically so you won't even notice and you can carry on watching Sky TV as usual.

Thank you for helping us update your Sky box.

Some people are saying they are getting this email the sites seems to be legit

Sounds like a ballance between their database and the real custumer datas.
Perhaps they have lost some datas.

Nothing about a card or completly system change.
      Let's wait and see.

I think they are not changing their encryption system, because they never ask the customers to update software or change the boxes

I think you will find that they want to make sure that cards being used are being used by the boxes they are registered to

They can't stop your service, if you pay, with a ordinary email like this, without a official legal comunication.

I wouldn't trust any emails floating about. If they are going to stop a paying customers services, they'll make sure they contact them by phone or mail before taking drastic measures.
After all, It'll cost them money just switching people off.

                        hi guys

                        To my opinion: rumours, rumours...
Best not to panic, wait and see.
Even today I've read (again: rumours, did not find a official version) it seems to be 2 men (a dutchmen and a belgian) are convicted for cs.

the domain is registerd to British Sky Broadcasting Group Plc , same as s*y.com, ip is the same range too, so its seems to be true that they want the data. can not imagine why sly would do something like that !? they should have all the data.

maybe they really check if the card is in the right reciever but can they do anything if not?

as I said, if that were true, the purpose would be to verify the matching decoder card, but who has the card also has the original decoder then the data can give them quietly and then put it in another place
For this reason I think it is all fake
