What is the even ond the odd CW and how does the change of the CWs work. The providers change the CW every 5 to 10 seconds but how do the use the even and odd CW in this change?

Making it simple, CWs is the result of ECMs processing made by the card (or emu, if it is the case).
ECM: Entitlement Control Message - sent by the provider at regular intervals (10 seconds, but also 15 or 20 or 30 ... depends by the provider).
If CWs are correct you will have vision. -

Payload can be decrypted only with appropriate cw (which was previously requested by the ecm) so, obviously, cw should be processed in time by descrambling system to have vision.
If cw arrives with too much delay you have glitches, if it never arrives you have a frozen image.Comment

Tell me if I'm wrong.
It's only the description for the cw-now (odd) and the cw-next (even).
A normal ecm contains a few seconds before cw-changing both cw so that you have the current cw (if you switch to the channel) and the next (for prevent freeze when cw changes).
Just found in a FAQ:
"Almost all the other systems like Via., Ird., Con., Mediag., Nagrav. are based on a EVEN and ODD control word. This means that the EVEN Control Word is used after 4 to 30 seconds after to ODD Control Word and each time the EVEN ECM comes many seconds before the ODD Control Word is expired.
Some encryption systems like NDS are really smart because the ECM is sent to the card and the CW is expected in less than 600 milliseconds so if the internet connection is weak or suffers of latency the CW does not come on time and generates a so called “Freeze”."

Ohh, sky germany e.g. changes every 7 seconds. The problem with sky_uk is that they send the even-cw 600 msec before the cw changes so the card has only 0,6 sec time to calculate it for preventing freezes. Other providers do this 4 or 5 seconds before the change. This means more time for the cards and more time for CS via internet.

The problem of freeze born from low ecm timing, if the the timing is over 520/550 ms you see glitches, freeze and other problem.
It's just says frome someone, the videoguard crypt don't tollerate a lag over 550ms.Comment
