    Newbie needs advice

    Hi everyone,

new to Forum, currently looking to upgrade my receiver. I am looking for something with extras that I can plug into my router and which has the ability to auto update. As you can guess I'm not a technical wizard

Any advice on what box would do the job, big UK footie fan and looking to view matches with english commentary if you know what I mean

    Re: Newbie needs advice

    hi leroyjames67

Welcome and glad you joined us here.

About uk footie, there are options here, but also depends on the sats you can reveive - to have an idea of which match is on which channel and sat: see what's 'live on sat'.

About boxes, well here it's mostly cccam (clines) which is discussed and supported. So look for a box with at least cccam support. There are client boxes (as eg the mvision - really use to use) and server boxes (like eg dreambox and VU+ - needs more computer and linux knowledge). I suggest you do some reading here in the different sections.

Some boxes have auto-update and some don't - most important is the cline you enter in the box - this must be good.
Also very important: only use 1 cline from a satloverserver at the same time to avoid ban (very important forum rule!).

Good luck with your choice, keep us updated and don't be afraid to ask.

    Best regards

      Re: Newbie needs advice

Hello mate and welcome to the forum. If i understand you correct you have a receiver already and want to buy a new one. If you could tell us what receiver you do already have and how you have been using it like with cardsharing? cccam server, newcamd server?. However depending on how much money you want to use you can get a dreambox that will do probably everything you want a satellite box to do for you. This is a box that is very expensive but you get what you pay for. Or if you just simply want a box that you can just plug to Internet and start watching pay tv for fr**:P you might want to get for a cheaper one that support either newcamd or cccam thecnology. I prefer you get one that support cccam. I have been in uk and the receiver that you can get cheat is like redline T7600, Istar-korea X2000 adn so on. There is plenty of receiver model out in the world but you if you just want to watch Real Madrid beat Barcelona, then i advice you to go for a cheap receiver that do support cccam. Any question or something you dont understand just ask

        Re: Newbie needs advice

Hi, There is a lot discussed on the forum about the receivers. There are entry level and advanced level receivers available at the moment so you will have to coose yours. All of them a basic job of CS. If you want to use free clines from satlover's server, they change almost everyday. If you complete 100 useful posts then you get a personal C line and after 600 posts it gets better.
Alternatively you can get the premium server which is a paid server, your c line will be permanent and ypou dont have to worry about updating it everyday.

          Thanks Guys,

nice to know I can ask the stupid newbie questions and I promise to do more reading Currently use a Protek 9710HD with a motorized 1.2mtr dish and mainly watch east beam sats from 28 to 13. Existing box is plug into router and away you go, haven't a scooby doo how it works really. Looking for something equally as simplistic but with potential to watch UK packages, hope I'm making sense

          thanks in advance

get an old spiderbox7000hd, thats what i been using nearly 2years now, clines/nlines, no probs, every channel receiveable, very easy.
people nearly giving away these if you hunt.
Do not send me iptv/cline requests,

technical or iptv/cline server questions in PM!

            I will not answer!

You might want to try a Blade 7000 which I think has an auto channel list update, but limited to what you can do beyond watch tv.
Even with a vu+ or dm800se you can update channel list, etc from the menu, so not really that difficult. Once you get used to it it's a doddle.

                hi

I suggest you keep it simple then and go for a client box (easiest to handle - now worries) ; anyway: you can still use your protek (use the loop through), just be sure only 1 box active and the other one standby.

                    Re: Newbie needs advice

There are two types of Boxes
Open Source Linux Box: VU+, Dreambox Azboz, Amiko, Giga Blue........ They are all used as client as well as a server and you can modify your firmware to your own choice. These boxes are usually expensive.

Closed Source Linux Box: Openbox, Skybox and other cheapos.... They are used as a client ( you put a cline from a server and they open channels). You cannot modify their firmware.

                      Thanks everybody for the input.

So am I correct in the following assumptions, easiest way to start off is to

Buy a client box, eaglebox or spiderbox (would old s** HD Box do?)

Hook into router and loop through existing sat box but make sure one is always in standby

Pay for premium server 15 dollars per month for 28.2

and Robert is your fathers brother

Sly HD box is not made for CS (Card Sharing), It will open encrypted channels with a proper card.

You can also try Openbox or Skybox as they have the most easiest menu and will be just perfect for a newbie.

                            Thanks MC,

looking at an iNET500s (Dreambox 500s) Linux Receiver, reasonably priced from trusted local supplier.

Once I have box sorted out was the rest of my previous post correct re set up?

You are welcome leroyjames: Always happy to help new members!
Once you have box sorted out. Try the line but I would suggest when you are trying the test line, don't involve other boxes just put the connection straight into your testing box without any loops through. Don't think it will make any difference but just to be sure that every thing is in perfect working order before testing a line.
