I am thinking of buying a new box with dual tuner and i have a couple of questions.

1) are there any boxes that have a series link recording function like with sly (and probably other packages)

2) On my set up i have Hotbird & 28e on a diseqc on one feed and just 28e on the other. The majority of recording i will be doing will be on the 28e feed. Is there any way to set up the recording so that the 28e only feed is the principal feed for recording.

Hi mate. On vu+ there is autotimer integrated into some images.
Not quite as perfect as series link, but does the job.
if your recording over runs it doesn't carry on recording and it doesn't pick up on schedule changes like sly series link does. But it is ok.
Yo can also set recordings to take preference in the setup menu, think it does this by default though.
Or you could get a vu+ ultimo and do away with your diseqc switch.

Are far as i know there is not any box that does series link other than the sly box

Different networks have different system of EPG. Sly box is made for the purpose just to deal with its own EPG. Therefore it supports Series recording. VU+ is a universal box and not able to record the series with one touch. You will have to choose from the EPG with schedule recording or time shift. Hope they can make a plug in for this purpose.

Autotimer is a plugin. It is Integrated into some images and available as a plugin on others.
Works great with cool tv guide and can set it up with different parameters.
It can be set to record every instance of a programme, to only record within a certain time frame, to ignore instances already recorded, etc.
only problem is, that as most people only update epg once a day. If there is a late schedule change, it won't pick it up.
You can also customise it to record into folder as well set by programme name, genre, etc.
