In earlier post in September I said no problems with Spiderbox homeplugs for 3 years. Today one of the plugs has died!!
Can anyone advise me of a good replacement.
The plugs are rated at 200mbps , what might I gain if I switch to 500mbps plugs? So much choice out there what is currently recommended?

Hi Laird; There are so many models and manufacturers out there that its really difficult to say which is which. The prices start from £17 upwards. Any users who have used homeplugs can suggest. Here is a link to give you some idea about the homeplugs

Like Happy Camper I have Spiderbox HD9000 and Spiderbox Homeplugs.
Absolutely no problems since installing nearly 3 years ago

ok, but same electrical supply is same electrical circuit then - at my home I have 1 supply but 3 circuits (220V -> 3x 400V on L1,L2,L3 + N) - so homeplugs need to be on the same circuit to work - I have seen it working on different circuits some times, but very unstable.

@pan1100: I will explain what simba92 means. Same supply means that your main line to your home is from the one transformer. For example if you have 2 main line from Transformer 1 and Transformer 2 and you connect home plugs 1 to the supply from transformer 1 and home plug 2 to the supply from transformer 2 then they wont work. You will need to connect both to the power from Transformer 1 or Transformer 2.

I have just installed TP Link homeplugs (500 mbit ) too. It was very easy, cheap and I have a connection with more than 100 mbits about two departments.

I have just installed TP-Link homeplugs and find them very good after an initial glitch in setting up ,I not very mobile due arthritis so wasn't able to run cables through loft of my cottage. So I would recommend them but use a laptop or computer with plugs in same room to set them up,much easier..

Correct if you mean different circuits with different rings. They must be on the same electrical circuit to work.

You're wrong. They do work on different rings (ie upstairs/downstairs) just have to be on the same electrical supply

Friday I have installed the first time two homeplugs the TL-PA511KIT (500 Mbps) . It was very easy plug in and it works. A few tools installed on the PC and you can change the passwords and see the speed (bij 96 Mbps two floors)

I am thinking of trying a pair of homeplugs fed up with trailing leads all round the house are they worth using or are they more trouble than there worth and do they cause low level interference

i have 6 homeplugs around the house and i cannot fault them one bit. best bit of money i ever invested

I have Spiderbox 9000hd and a pair of spider plug ins ,had them at least 3 years with no problems at all.One upstairs in the office/room and one in the downstairs lounge about 50 foot away.

I have a fair amount of experience with home plugs, just make sure you always get the same make, the security protocol will be different between makes.

you're right: best to take same make ; but as said: there exists software to pair the protocols (didn't do it myself, but saw someone pairing my 3 brands -> so: not easy, but doable - reason is I didn't found the older brands anymore).

I have a fair amount of experience with home plugs, just make sure you always get the same make, the security protocol will be different between makes. Try and get the highest speed you can afford. I feel they are safer to use as the radiation level is as near as dam it nil. Home plugs are 100% recommended and yes I have a good reason to recommend them I sell a lot of them and use them. Go get. No tripping over long cables and no need to redecorate, more time to compute or watch tv!!
