    Re: Satellite choices

Ok here it goes. Whilst cleaning out my garage i found a spare sky dish that the installer had left behind so i had a look to see what i could pick up on a 60cm dish and it turns out that i should be able to pick up hotbird & astra 19.2e so i thought i would grab a monoblock skewed to 6 degrees and try it out whilst i am saving for a motorised system. My question is i have looked at the elevation and skews on these birds and they are as follows 13e 29.1 deg elevation -9.4 skew and 19.2e 27.8 deg elevation -6.3 deg skew. when putting the dish up do i set the angle of elevation to the average of the two and if i have a monoblock how do i set the different skews?

if using hotbird as prime focus then set for hotbird and astra will be ok as its a 1 piece lnb, regards mdt

ok if i've got this right. I set it using hotbird settings ie elevation and astra will automatically drop in. So the LNB that needs to be in the lnb holder (pointing to the middle of the dish) will be the left hand side of the monoblock LNB and the right hand side lnb should then drop into astra. when i put the lnb into the lnb holder do the two lnbs need to line up level or does the loose (19.2) one need to sit slightly higher or lower

looking from behind the dish if hotbird is prime focus the the left hand side of the mono-block needs to be in the holder and the secondery lnb need to be slightly higher, regards mdt

Do you need a disecq switch with this setup or can the receiver do the switching?

                Re: Satellite choices

the monoblock i am looking at only has one coax connector so i guess its not needed but i am also gonna run a feed from my sky dish anyway so i will be using a diseqc switch. The receiver i have is a dreambox dm500s (original)

monoblocks are self switching. no need for DiSEqc switch

smart titanium has its configuration in the switch set up as astra1 as the prime focus although you could set the switching the other way around... the inverto black ultra series are the lnb of choice, regards mdt
