    Satellite choices

I am relatively new to this game and am thinking of putting up a new dish with a monoblock lnb skewed to two satellites (cant afford motorised system as yet) I have a couple of questions that i could do with a hand on

    1) I was thinking of maybe a monoblock with a 3 degree skew and going for 13e & 16e as i particularly would like Football & Films (In English) but could be persuaded to look at other variations ie 13e & 19e) what do you guys think would be the best bet for me or do you know any better combinations?

    2) i live in the east of england, what would be the best size dish for me to obtain these birds (and possibly at a later date motorise it)

    Thanks in advance

astra1@19.2e and hotbird@13e will give you the most choice from a mono-block lnb. id choose a triax td88 or a gibertini 85cm dish for excellent rain fade margin and for future use with a usals motor, regards mdt

      Hi rikksow

I'm not sure I'd spend the money on a monoblock if you are considering a motor in the future as you'll end up getting rid of the monoblock when you fit the motor.

Motors are only £35 - £50, if you don't have a fixed satelitte requirement, eg you only want Astra19.2 & Hotbird and you don't need to provide feeds to more than one receiver then I'd save up your money & go straight to a motor.

Triax TD88 is a really good dish.

Motor is best mate. You could get a td88 and stick 4 or 5 lnb's on there, but it would work out more expensive.
motorise from the off and you'll be laughing.

            Re: Satellite choices

At one time a mono block was a good option but not now with everything the other sats have to offer its not as good an option, these days motors are not expensive compared to when we had to fit actuator arms to engineered mounts with control lines, things have come a long way and for a fraction of the cost things are much better than ever.
If your receiver has diseqc slap a motor on it,and open up your world.

Ok thanks for all your advice, i might consider waiting a while. Can anyone tell me is it relatively easy fitting a motorised dish. I must say i am a little daunted by it all. What birds should i be able to pick up with an 85cm motorised dish. By the way i am running an original DM500s

                Hello,

Are motors better now? No more problems with burning sat box? No more problems with alignement?

I always read so much complains about dish motors that it doesn't really encouraged me to try.

                Anyone can confirm?

All depends on your Location, where the dish is to be mounted and your line of sight, a correctly installed 85cm should give you all of the medium to high power satellites easily and if done correctly maybe some of the weaker ones too

I don't know about other manufacturers, but I do know that the technomate motor has never burned or caused a problem. I have driven it crazy moving east west for hours and never has it failed... In other words it is very reliable.

As everyone else is suggesting to go for a motor. My suggestion is the same. The advantage of few LNB's on one dish is that it give you fast channel changing. You can easily jump from 19.2e to 9e. On the other side you will have to move the motor and it takes a little while. But It gives you half of the world to explore through.
Your other question about satellites, I would suggest 19.2e and 13 will give you a lot of choice. Otherwise you can add 23.5e 16e 9e and 7e too.

Definately go for a motor. In reality, the only expense for a motorised system is usually the box itself. The decision for it to be HD or not is key and whether it is a newish system that has USB and Ethernet ports etc (which you will need for Cccam) The installation is not really THAT difficult, and there are plenty of resources to help you with online. You just need a lot of time if you have never done it before, and more importantly a very strong and vertically perfect pole that you will mount such a system on, or a bracket that is also vertically aligned perfectly.

But in terms of price, go for a motor, it is definately recommended with all the available channels that you will be able to pick up for football across all satellites.

1.2m is best. East of England alot is available,if you are goign to make the effort, you might aswell go for it and get everything since once it is up, it will take you years to get a new system. I think 1) motor system 2) HD box 3) 1.2m dish

Thanks for this advice. I note you mention a 1.2m dish is the best option. Will i not need planning permission for a dish that size?

Just a rough Idea about a motorised dish.

1m dish with Wall mount: £30
                            Motor: £35
                            LNB: £4
Or full motorised system £85 delivered

If you only will get the most popular sat like 13E 16E 19E 23.5E i will say TD88 dish with motor is a very good thoise, and you wil get a lot of film and sport, but the week sattelite like 7W 9E maybee you shold have about 1m dish.
