I don't suppose Nilesat 201 at 7w is doable in the south of England? Couldn't find a coverage map on Lyngsat.

I'm very interested in the "results" of the new motor-engine rules in the f1.

btw: on rtl (de and at) its fta (with advertising break) and on orf1 with emu on 19,2°.

The free-trainings are fta on sport1 (de) on 19,2°.

Bbc used to broadcast every f1 race, with a replay
                    later in the day.
Sky bought the broadcasting rights and started their f1 channel and deal was made so
bbc could broadcast half f1 races.

Correct, all races were live on FTA in the UK, originally BBC then ITV for a few years and then back to the BBC again. When the BBC spent all it's money on the Olympics combined with budget cuts they could no longer afford the contract.

They did a deal with BSkyB, Sky UK show all qualifying and races live. The BBC show half the qualify and races live, the other half are covered with highlights. When the number of races dropped from 20 to 19 the BBC live coverage dropped from 10 to 9 races.

It went against the Concorde agreement at the time as F1 was meant to be FTA in the UK. The other FTA broadcasters didn't get a chance to bid for it. It's annoying as the UK is used to FTA coverage and was meant to stay that way given the number of teams, employees etc that are UK based. Maybe after 2018 it might go back to FTA.

Sky's coverage isn't bad, it's just expensive. To watch Sky Sports F1 you need the Sky Entertainment pack and a HD subscription that costs about £35 a month, expensive if that's the only channel you want.

Qualifying live is only on rtl (de / at), not sport1. There you can only see (often, not always) the free trainigs.

Some practice sessions are FTA on Sport 1.
Qualifying & Races are FTA on RTL.

You can also watch both on ORF Eins SD and HD free with the use of a softcam key, no sharing required.
