You can use a laptop. Connect the stb to lan port and setup ICS on wifi for internett access.

Connect your STB to your router. Make sure nothing else apart from yoru laptop is connected to the router. Using your laptop, login to the routers i.p settings and go to the page that displays the data traffic. Make sure you have no data transfer going through your pc by disabling the wifi or pulling out the ethernet. Wait for an hour (this is enough time so there is not a massive diffference when the laptop reconnects and does minor updates).

Refresh the page, if there is a significant difference then you know that your STB is still drawing traffic.

You can also look on the router to see if particular lights are flashing when only your STB is connected in standby. That would give you a good clue.

If you have a linux based receiver the simplest way to check ongoing connections is:
          - telnet to the box
          - issue the command "netstat"

              hi peremacedonia

100% right, but only if server/open linux boxes - with client boxes (closed linux) no traffic and connection to server on standby - just wanted to add this for info.

is there a way to automatically connect/disconnect the EMU when we power on/off the dreambox?
