      Re: Help Sky uk

I was the same. I joined this forum being pretty much clueless.
Got loads of help and advice. Bought my motorised dish system and vu+ duo, and haven't looked back.
it's a steep learning curve, but so rewarding.

Just to add do not limit yourself to just a fixed dish for 28.2° east and then go through the CS route, The reason being they are due a card change soon and you can bet your bottom dollar this will not be open for quite a while as measures will be taken to make it harder.

Thus a Motorised system will allow you many more channels that are still open some with keys as well, and you will benefit from a longer viewing time side of things.

Another card change? thats a rip off. Recently paid £20 for a white card and later on found out that its not worth it.

The current White cards have been in circulation for around nearly 4 years, Card changes are generally every 5 so they are due very soon

Last time when it was a card change, sly uk started the announcement from a year earlier and then the old card didnt stop working until after good 6 months so are we talking about at least 18-24 months?

Another alternative is one of those multisat/Visiosat/Bigsat dishes, up to 4, 8 or even 16 lnb's/sats I think ; I have 4 lnbs and very pleased, faster than motorised - event though motorised gives your more channels/possibilities.

sorry for going off topic here, the chap best motorised, i had multi- 8 lnb set-up myself, even 1 sky dish, plus 2 other dishes, with 2 cables entering house to a/b switch to select 1 or other dish, what a lot of time i spent to set-up, when i fitted motor, best way to go ever, sat range 45e-30w,
                  lot better than 4 sats.
back to topic, lot more choice than only sly uk.

                    Re: Help Sky uk

But with multisat setting you could do a quick zapping between the satellites, thats what I have learnt. You would need a Diseqc switch and thus you would loose a few % of the signal. In Motorised system you striaght away feed the satellite into the receiver and dont loose much.
Conclusion: Signal wise motorised is better and probably cheaper too.

I find that I tend to mostly watch 0.8w to 28.2e. It takes about 5-10 seconds to move, so not long at all.
I think motorised is definately the better option.

Go for the best LNB like inverto made and a good quality cable. Also the size of the dish is really important. Usually 80cm dish works better in the UK but people choose to have 90cm and sometime 100cm. The bigger the dish size, gthe better the signal. But as we get high winds and gales in the uk, therefore 80cm would be just enough. You get most of the popular satellites with it.

                          hi

ok, I agree, but if I was up to looking for a new dish, I would take a 'big' one: better signal, more sats - ok, only thing is it must be well fixed (sure in windy areas). Costs a little bit more, but really more fun!

i have a channel master 1200 and it runs off a 18inch acuator and it is very quick at going from one sat to another luckly i set it up in the back garden near the fences so i dont have any trouble with strong winds.

I have an iss 80 cm and pick up most of the sats I want.
I was pleasantly surprised today when I tried tring. Receiving it with about 50% snr.
I tried a while back and was only getting about 30 % and was breaking up badly.
It was at the same time of day as well so I don't know what made the difference.

When I say, High winds and gales, People from the UK would definitely know, what does it mean. The winds are sometime 90 miles per hour which blow the roofS off the houseS. Garden set up sounds the best. One of our MODS Toby could advise you better as he has just fixed one recently in his back garden.
