to be honest i dont think there is a lot of differance between them the only thing about an original box is that you have piece of mind if anything goes wrong you havent that far to send it to get it repaired.

Correct, as long as everything works a clone is perfect.
As soon as there's a problem the problems start: you have to send it far away for repair, mostly expensive transport freights, can take months before you get any feedback (if you get any feedback at all).

I always keep at the real stuff, but have some friends who like to experience with buying 'exotic' material ; sometimes they got the repaired item back after 3-4 months, sometimes no feedback after more than 6 months and had to buy new ones. It's everyone's choice, but I prefer to know what I buy and also know the offered service.

a clone is a copy of the original, but beware, i have heard good reports and bad reports about clones, your decision.

Would like to know the basic difference between the original and the clones. There are some on sale on ebay and they are offering 12 or 24 months warranty, depends who you buy them from. Thanks in advance

You're right that warranty is theoritical (also juridical) 12 or 24 months ; but as I wrote on my earlier post: is it worth to take the risk, not knowing if and when someone will get any feedback after sending the unit back to a far place ...

The best thing would be to do is to find a local seller on the internet and then collect it in person. That's what I did for my openbox and collected it from his home. On collection the guy told me if there was any problem with the unti bring it back and he will replace it for me there and then.

With that I 100% agree ; if there's a possibility to buy such boxes local and direct to someone personal, there's almost no risk and surely worth the try! Sadly here (Belgium) I don't have such contacts.

It was a good deal. I just wanted a cheap HD box for sky. Found it on bay, contacted the guy and asked if i could collect it in person. He agreed and gave me his address with a phone number. Knocked on his door. Think his mum was watching when he was counting the cash, LOL,LOL.
It was jut 15 miles drive each way.

I bought my Vu+ duo clone from a local seller. He sticks £ 15 on top for the privelege, but at least he is local if I need to return it.
Saying that, if I new that I'd be able to pick up an original for £290 back then, I would've waited and done so.
When I bought my clone the originals were going for about £320.
Since clones came out the prices have dropped 10%.

I will suggest when you go on ebay or any other website, popular in Belgium. Search in your local area for the item you want. Contact the seller and ask them for collection in person. If they agree then you are worry free and you also save postage charges as I know that postage is very expensive all over Europe. We are very lucky in England with Royal Mail and other options.

                        hi

thanks, although I'm fine and settled for the moment ; must say the more I read about eg the DB and the VU+ the more I am interested, same for a motorised dish. But atm the time isn't really right (just will keep on dreaming) due to construction plans.
You're right, I also prefer to pick up things personally (even if this means a trip of & few hours - and Belgium isn't so big, but in this cases mostly the Netherlands are cheaper)
