Grounding the LNB?

Hello,

Is it necessary to ground the lnbs? I have a 4 twin lnb on 2 dishes for a demo and PC card.

My dishes are installed on a balcony.

Do I need it? If yes, how to hook up the grounding?

A few people say yes the majority say no (A lot more say no). I have been playing with satellite boxes now for over 20 years never done it.

A serious "grounding", complex and costly, covers the entire building, which in rare cases, could be put at risk of electrocution, due to the presence of the plant. The evaluation is complex, concerns the location of the building, in relation to the radius, the frequency of lightning in the area, etc.. If the dish is placed on top of a tall building and "Lonely" (which is probably already at risk, with or without the implant), this condition rarely occurs, so just a normal earth, with equipotential interconnection all the metal parts with the socks of the cables, for protection against accidental contact, if there is this risk (source should be protected by breaker), or from the collection of electrostatic charges, not so much dangerous for people, as for the equipment. most lnbs now earthing not needed, plastic coated, protected f-connecter covers now,
earthing dish ???? no idea. anyone.

Its not necessary ground the lnb's.
What you can do for your protection is to use surge protector for your box and other thing for safety, you can ground dish console to lightning conductor if you have some. This is most coomon set, when your dish is istalled on the highest point on the roof, or when its installed on the chimney.

The dish isn't on the roof, so I think it is safe from lightning.

In areas where ligtning is common, it is a good idea to ground the dish and the LNB and cover the metal connectors.
You can read many reports about lghting burning out components in some receivers or switches.

I am sure that many of you have seen pictures of split trees due to lighting.
Think what it would do to the electronic components.

At least you get the peace of mind that your system has some saftey features added.
