Fried tuner in my FTA box or?

I just went to readjust my LNB to get a transponder (11096H) on 42E as I couldn't get a signal on that transponder (I am in Europe, not UK, so I've had it before). After a few min of skewing I was able to get signal but then all of a sudden as I was looking at the TV, the screen went black and then back on again (the FTA box restarted itself basically). I didn't pay it any mind the first time it happened as I was readjusting the LNB but then all of a sudden it did it a few more times and so I decided to stop playing with the LNB and went back in to check the receiver.

I unplugged the coax cable and plugged it back in, and all of a sudden smoke started coming out of the FTA box right where the tuner is inside it. It had that fried smell.

And now, when I turn the FTA box on, it doesn't give me any signal strength/quality at all on any sat with the coax cable plugged in to it and the LNB.

Is it the tuner that's fried, the cable or the LNB?

I think it's the tuner and so I'll have to get a new FTA box but just wanted to ask for your opinion.

well mate sounds like you've fried the box and if the box was still switched on when you removed the coax, you might have shorted the lnb

perhaps your lnb was an older metal type which were prone to shorting out if not earthed, and if your box was fairly old, newer boxes now have prevented shorting systems built in? i will always remember getting tiny shocks a few years ago from doing exactly what you have been doing, if you were motorised no need to touch lnb.

probably F connector which is attached to your lnb wasnt in a good condition. when you skew your lnb it short circuited and caused your tuner to be burned. check your connector attached to your lnb. you will see that it is prone to make a short circuit...

I just tried to test the LNB with another older FTA box and it says "LNB overload". I'm guessing the LNB is fried too?

In that case, I'll be replacing the LNB and FTA box. However I think the cable is ok since it still carries signal and communicated with the fried LNB?

i would replace the cable, not a great cost, but at least you know everything will be good.

Thank you to all that replied. It was indeed the FTA box and the LNB that were fried.

I purchased a new FTA receiver and LNB and am now back up and running.

FTA box how much have you paid it???! Why haven't you buy Dream 500s for some 50-60 euros???
It would be much better decision than fta.
