Asia TV USA Ltd. will begin offering a high-definition simulcast of its Zee TV service by the end of the first quarter.
Zee TV will thus become the first South Asian TV service to launch in the enhanced format. Asia TV USA didn't announce any launches for Zee TV HD at presstime, but the standard-definition service has carriage agreements with all of the major U.S. distributors, save for DirecTV.
"Once again the Zee brand has taken on the role of a pioneer," said Asia TV CEO Suresh Bala Iyer in a statement. "It is a great honor for us to provide our loyal viewers their favorite programming in HD service, and also to become the first channel in the Americas to deliver high quality South Asian entertainment in HD."
