if i was to purchase a new/secondhand dreambox,question to the people who in the know.
how would i know is it original or clone, does it state on the box, or do i take someones word for it, or is there something obvious that i am missing.

If its advertised as Sim 2.01, Sim 2.10 or Ferrari then its a clone, If they dont advertise this then there is a good chance its an original but you wont know till you turn it on.

DM800 Original secondhand price around £215

DM800se Original secondhand price around £330

Clone 800 new Price around £125. Secondhand from the Bay up to £100

Clone 800se new price around £160 Secondhand from the bay up to £150

I have 2 clone 800se's and have had an 800 my advice get an 800se its streets ahead of the 800.

I have just started getting the Clone Vu+ Duos only £20 dearer than a clone 800se and they are way better again

The plugin is included on the 800se clone and i am afraid it generates a verification code, Never tried it on the website but yes thats the only way to be certain.

To find the right answer to the question "does it work or not" please generate code and try it, then tell us the result please. If other members here do the same test and tell us their results we will have an opportunity to find usefulness of this "check" test more correctly . My box is original and passed the test.

I shall put this very simply at the present time and this is no lie the DM clone owning Community is larger than the Official Branded ones, There are more images available for clone DM800's than what there are for original.

DM has only 1 person to blame for this themselves for there pricing structure, I mean who in the right mind pays £429 for an official DM800se when the clone version is £160 and has more support for it.

End of story

sounds like then no probs with a clone then.
local sat shop near me selling dm7020hd for around £520 to much for myself.

Ther mac address on a clone is usually not the same as on the mac address on the sticker

if you get one try this

1st Download FLASH WIZZARD(or Dreamup) and upload the modified firmware image "brainwave mac address changer.fw2" to dreambox

2nd Reboot dreambox and then, connect using telnet (use dhcp, and find the assigned IP in the control panel).
The login/password are the default credentials (root/dreambox).

3rd execute the script calling it like this :

patchME XX XX XX XX XX XX

The XX XX XX XX XX XX is the desired MAC ADDRESS. Do not use colons to separate the bytes.
example:

This is ok -->patchME 00 09 34 01 AA 55

This is not ok --> /var/patchME 00:09:34:01:AA:55


Congratulations ! Mac address permanently changed.

Why aare the clone VU+ Duos much better is it build qualty, features, software or all? I ask because as you know from my other thread I am in the market for a new box.

Yes, unfortunately we have received message that new VU drivers are containing a time bomb - same as old timer DM500 (SD) . VU box has no First Stage and no Second Stage loader - it boots just from the same chip that the image is stored in. Than if there is a detection of any difference between genuine and OEM box than it is easy to kill such a box. Be considerable and use the box with tested software only. Basically we can say VU genuine software released till 2011 is safe for our OEM boxes. Better do not use latest software from other sources than our support forum or web page.

The Build is better and it feels a lot more solid than an 800 the 800se is similar thats another very well built box but for £20 more tha an 800se you are getting a twin tuner box even if you dont have 2 feeds its always there for future use

This was the same when the Dm500,800 and so on came out you had to use clone images that where patched to use on the box the difference with the Duo is your not using patched images you can use any image prior to Dec 2011 and one that does not need the 3.1.1 kernel update as this is what Ferrari are afraid might kill the box, But since this i have learned that someone has already tried the 3.1.1 kernel with new image and its working.

Its only a minor setback until its verified that the newer images are safe to use.

Absolutetly right and I can see the VU's going exactly the same way.
