RTL is to exit the beleaguered Greek TV market, selling the controlling stake in its local subsidiary Alpha Media Group. The pan-European broadcaster, which owns The X-Factor co-producer FremantleMedia, paid €125m to take a 70% stake in Alpha Media Group in 2008.
CEO of RTL Group makes the following comment: "Due to serious and persistent economic crisis in Greece eventually we decided to leave the market entirely in Greece. We wish the Alpha, its employees and our business partners the best from now on with thanks for their invaluable contribution and dedication in these difficult times. "
